I shot an AR-15. A big black scary assault rifle. With a barrel shroud. Converted to shoot .22 LR, it has tricky little peep sights, a pistol grip, a collapsible stock...and a big magazine. 30 rounds of fun!
Google "Small Arms Firing School." Your government will subsidize you learning to fire the real M-16 Air Force Target Rifle, with a real military instructor, at the site of the National Matches, which is less than two hours away. Nice way to spend a day, and you meet the nicest people there.
Arsmcor/Ruco had an M-1600, a Squires-Bingham action pimped up to look just like an M-16, that sold for $79.95 off the rack. From five feet away, it'll spook the rangemaster, and since it's designed as a .22, it has a faster lock time in semi-auto than the Stoner. Easier to clean, too. That was my son's first rifle
Be polite, please. (also I'd like to add that I reserve the right to delete any and all comments that I find offensive, argumentative, or just plain tiresome.)

ReplyDeleteFun, aren't they? You should have seen me grin some years ago when I got to fire a Thompson on full auto.

AR-15s are WAY cool, 'cause if you've got two lowers and three uppers, you've got six different rifles.
ReplyDeleteAnybody know what kind of scope that is on top?
ReplyDeletew00t! Anyone who can make Sarah Brady cry is my kind of people. Glad you had fun.
ReplyDeleteBe careful, black rifles are very contagious!
ReplyDeleteThe wife and I spent a Saturday shooting my friend's AR. Within a month we had started our AR build.
Well, not actually an assault rifle (not selective fire), but still pretty cool. :-)
ReplyDeleteBarrel Shroud!! Barrel Shroud!!Barrel Shroud!! Aren't they fun with that boingy noise the buffer makes?!
ReplyDeleteI know someone makes a drop-in .22 conversion for the AR. I'm seriously considering it due to the price of .223 / 5.56.
ReplyDeleteIn honor of your offense, I did the same today.
ReplyDeleteOnly.. it was an AR180b with an Eotech, in 5.56.
Better get Sarah a bigger bucket to cry into.
In .22 LR yet! That's so touchingly....PERSONAL for Sarah.
