flying solo

Caleb is going to be out of town next Tuesday and won't be able to host the Gun Nuts podcast. He's offered me the opportunity to do the hour show all by my lonesome, discussing anything I like. If (and that's a big "if") I did agree to do this show it would have to be on a topic that I didn't have to do lots of research for because I'll already be multi-tasking like a maniac, launching the chat, accepting and declining callers, etc.

So, if I did a podcast without Caleb...what should I talk about? Any ideas?

  1. You could probably also pick up another temporary co-host to handle the phones and such. Don't suppose Bonnie would be able to jump back in for one night eh?

  2. aren't you a new shooter? How about explaining how you got to the point you decided to take up arms?

  3. The ultimate "Punt" in talk radio is open up the call lines and just talk.

Works for Rush Limbaugh every friday, and like-him-or-not he does the gig pretty well.

  4. I like the new shooter themed show, but I'm biased.

I also like the "punt" idea, I'm thinking there's enough going on in the world lately that a general open conversation would probably flow pretty smoothly. (not that I ever call in or talk in chat or anything so my opinion probably doesn't count for as much *chuckle*)

  5. Read the chat log.

    Always good for a laugh.

  6. "Gunblogging Women"

Get a call into Rosenholme and you get 2 right there.

  7. Talk about women and carrying guns (why some women are afraid of them, why they shouldn't be, how your husband pulled you out of the gun hate world) I definitely tune in for that.

  8. Talk about Sarah Palin and the "naughty librarian" image.

  9. "Gunnies surviving the coming Depression... what trade good are YOU hording?"

  10. I always like to learn more about concealed carry techniques. I'm a big guy and usually carry a J-frame in a pocket holster. I have a number of IWB holsters, but it's difficult for me to carry that way without printing.

In winter, I'm in/out at lot. I can use the IWB or a shoulder holster for my 1911 as long as I don't take my jacket off. I can't use those methods if I'm out at the local greasy spoon for lunch where it's too hot to keep the jacket on.

    Just some thoughts...

  11. Talk about Caleb. He won't be there.

  12. For some reason, "Chicks and Guns" is always a big draw...

  13. Tam - How about some baby chicks chirping in the backgroud to set the atmosphere?

  14. Go with the "Chicks with Guns" theme.

A discussion on how to get more women to the range for the first time could be productive. And that's something you should be able to talk about without much advance prep.

Btw, If I posted twice, it's because I think the comment Gods ate the first comment, but I'm not 100% sure...

  16. Breda,

    Go with what you know.

Getting chicks involved in shooting and getting them involved in CCW and getting their license.

    Buckshot

  17. Why not invite someone and do an interview? Someone from the Second Amendment Sisters?

Got the "Chicks and Guns" thing going.

  18. This is easy... talk about the most natural thing you know - something totally free of research - You! Talk about your upbringing, your education, your introduction to shooting, the thing you most recently learned, etc. Oh, and have a "blast" doing the show - you'll be great!

  19. Breda-

I know I'm new to the blog scene and all, and if you've already posted this please direct me:

As a former liberal/anti-gunner sort myself, I am most interested in hearing how you made the trip from that side of the issue to this. If you don't use it for a subjet, perhaps a blog post?

I really need to do same...

Not to mention that I'm sure people would crack up at my horrible Chicagoan accent...

  22. It doesn't matter. We'll derail any topic you pick in the chat anyway.
    :)

I think the new shooter theme would be great.
