My mother borrowed our Ruger Mark II and is going to the range today. Alone.
She decided she wanted some private, one-on-one time with the NRA-certified instructor to learn more about basic firearm safety, handling, and shooting fundamentals. She has been considering keeping a gun in the house for protection and wants to feel a bit more sure of herself and her skills.
My mother is a breast cancer survivor so she has already fought for her life, and won. Now she'll be able to better defend that life. The most important woman in my world is becoming a chick with a gun and I am very, very proud of her.
That is AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteAnd covered in awesome sauce.
Excellent, Breda! Now you'll have one more person to go to the range with, and law-abiding survivors are +1. The Lord knows we need all the help we can get.
ReplyDeleteYou were proud of your mother before, this is just additional.
ReplyDeleteBreda,
ReplyDeletePLEASE work with her to get her onto something larger than the .22!
The .22 is much better than nothing, but a .38 Special or even one of the more powerful .32 rounds (.32 H&R Magnum or .327 Federal Magnum) leaves the .22 LR in the DUST for protection.
I am sure you know that all ready, since you are getting into 45s but I wanted to get it out there.

Bravo Breda! Something tells me she'll take a liking to your Bersa soon enough.
ReplyDeleteHoly Jesus Guacamole.
ReplyDeleteGo Mom!
ReplyDeleteI agree, something larger than a 22 for self defense, but a 22 pistol is excellent for learning marksmanship with. If she has disabilities that preclude anything else, it is still better than hand to hand combat.
Chicks kick ass.
ReplyDeleteRock on, Mama.
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of lady-friends that are a bit older than you, and knowing that they own guns and are not afraid of them nor are afraid to use them gives me peace of mind.
Just not sure if I want to arm the ones I may want to date ;)
Fantastic. You really do have a knack for getting folks into guns.
ReplyDeleteGood job!

Yay, Moms! Add me to the list of folks who are proud of her. Well done.
ReplyDeleteOh, and isn't the Mark II just incredibly fun to shoot? I love mine!
Xavier,
ReplyDeleteI agree, the .22 is a GREAT learning tool, and a good 50% or so practice tool.
The .22 will most definitely kill, unfortunately that is often 2 to 3 days later and it has NO stopping power, so it is a LAST RESORT for defense.
Even the lowly .32 ACP is throwing almost twice the bullet weight at the same velocity and the larger .32s, .380 ACP and such are ALL up from there.

So, don't keep us hanging here!
ReplyDeleteHow did Mom do?
When are you going shopping with her?
