edumacation

If I had any doubts about it before, this story made them all disappear. (oh, and this one too.)

Any future little Fallacies will be homeschooled.

  1. Wow, Ofelia said her son worked hard to make valedictorian. Um, did he work as hard making valedictorian as he worked on writing his speech?

  4. Diploma errors aren't limited to high schools. The diploma for my associate's degree at a Mississippi community college contained a grammar error. "Joe Blow is this day, January 1 1900, is awarded blah blah blah."

I called the head of the English department to verify that I wasn't crazy and that the sentence actually contained a duplicated verb. She acknowledged the error and then asked, "What's the big deal?" Clearly, her hypocrisy is limitless.

I called the dean's office, and she was the only one who gave a crap. Unfortunately, she referred me to the registrar's office, and the registrar just wanted to know what would make me "happy," as if my steak was overcooked or some such.

I got a corrected diploma a few months later, and I assume that they corrected the error for subsequent diplomas. I've still got the bad one, too.
