The next Vice President of the United States

Chosen as running mate by John McCain, she's a true maverick who fought her own party to end corruption and overspending, granted state benefits to same-sex couples, and is a member of Feminists for Life.

Meet Sarah Palin - wife, mother of 5, Governor of Alaska, and...
chick with a gun.

I just signed up to volunteer with the GOP.

  1. So is you crush on a 1911 still, or have you shifted affections to Governor Pallin?

  2. Seriously, waking up to this news this morning has made this my favorite day in a long time. The best part of her Wikipedia biography is the bit about how in high school she would get up at 3 AM with her dad... to HUNT MOOSE. I don't just want her as a VP, I want her as my BEST FRIEND. Oh, and as president starting January 2017. Or 2013 would be even better.

  3. I feel all warm and squishy inside. :)

If I get to vote for Palin in '12, it will totally make up being too young to vote for Reagan.

  4. Mother of 5!

Wow, she looks damn good for someone with 5 kids. This sure makes it easier to push the button for McCain. Maybe now I won't have to down a 6 pack before going to the polls.

I bet Mitt Romney is pissed.

  5. If you think Romney is pissed, imagine Pelosi. She's not gonna be the Queen anymore.

Her debate with Biden should be good.

  8. Ya know, kiddo, she kind of made me think of you. Sexy, shooty, brainy chick. YAYS!!!

    I'm GIDDY.

  9. Wow!, first McCain says Drill here, Drill now...next decides sending $700 billion overseas each year isn't good and now picks Palin as his running mate for 08. Where do I get a bumper sticker for my naked car ?

  10. Yeah, I've noticed shooty girls with blogs have a tendency to be smart, witty, and good looking. Think of Tam, Roberta X, Breda, Phlegmfatle, Abby, Mauser Girl, Bridget...Rather a long list.

My happy place has all its lights on and windows open.

  20. she gave me benefits, but she won't let me get married. I can continue to pay taxes as a single woman, I can't visit my partner if she's in the hospital.

In her eyes I am a second class citizen.

    No.

  23. There's a lot I don't like about her. She stated that the only reason she didn't veto the same-sex union was because Alaska's constitution forbid it in the way it was presented, not because she wanted it. I fundamentally disagree with her on abortion.

But I admire her a lot. There's a lot I can find to respect in her. Definitely her opinion on the NRA, and definitely the degree to which she will fight for what she believes in.

  24. In her eyes I am a second class citizen.

To be fair the people of Alaska voted that into their constitution. She didn't write it in there herself.

She COULD have vetoed the benefits bill as well but she didn't. She clearly believes in serving the people and letting their voice be heard. If you want to get married get some people together and change the constitution again. That's how the system works.

  25. I disagree with her abortion stance as well, but I'm glad to see she respected her State Constitution in that regard. That alone is something many politicians could care less about.

Quite frankly my personal view is that you should be free to marry whoever the hell you want. Allowing same-sex couples to marry doesn't negatively impact anyone, so why not leave them be to marry the person they love?

  26. Breda...you totally need to add her to your "chicks with guns" list. :)

  27. Ayuh- this was a great choice. I'm hearing/reading about all kinds of folks getting energized, even volunteering their TIME!
That is a biggie, & good on you B for doing so.
I haven't been this charged about the whole thing since Fred threw his hat into the ring.
I hope this outcome is better than that one though...

  28. I have NOT made ANY secret of the fact that I am not terribly enthusiastic about John McCain becoming the President of the USA.

Be that as it may, I am absolutely convinced that there is NO WAY the American people can allow Obama and O’Biden to take the Oval Office. It is just not an acceptable scenario, not in any way, shape, form or fashion.

That said, today John McCain made a decision that brought his stock up greatly in my estimation. Today John McCain announced that Sarah Palin of Alaska is going to be his running mate in his quest for the presidency.

Sarah Palin is a great choice in my opinion, and one that makes McCain a much more desirable choice for the office of POTUS. Palin brings style and grace into this race. She is a very smart and politically savvy candidate, she is Pro Life, Pro ANWR drilling, Pro Gun owners rights and she is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

It is with great relief that I say, I can now honestly support a McCain for President ticket. The addition of Sarah Palin to this ticket makes it what I believe to be an unbeatable combination!

  29. lydia - unless you live in Alaska, she didn't give you anything. And if you believe that any of the presidential or vice-presidential candidates can grant you any sort of rights, you are mistaken. Checks and balances, remember - no branch can act alone. The fact remains that Palin has acted outside of the constraints of the neo-con religious right. She has changed the game for the GOP, she is the future.

  30. Can we ask that McCain drop out now and just let Gov. Palin run? Please?

    Good call John.

  31. Well, I am happy, another fearless woman in my world to wonder over. How lucky can an old fellow get - I would be pushing it if I mentioned she came close to that mythical long legged red head - and I am solid on her marriage, family and our nation's future - the internet is flaming and the MSM is burnt, big time... and trying to catch up.

  32. Hope you don't mind a guy leaving a comment. I just wanted to comment you on a great blog, especially the gun stuff!

I, too, am VERY excited about Sarah Palin as John McCain's running mate. This ticket has new energy and I'm confident we will win this election!

  33. I love the comment at Rachel's (which Tam noted at VFTP), that Palin is a Heinlein character come to life.

True enough, but she expressed approval for the given Alaskan constitutional amencment relegating homosexuals to second-class status.

Ah, well, we're not going to get any candidate who's perfect, I don't think. I'm pretty excited about her, I just wish she were even better.

    ReplyDelete
  35. She may not be better, but it'll be good. regardless of her views, when you trim the pork and corruption out of government, per se shrinking it, you bring it closer to the people, and it's the people who should be making the kinds of calls such as relegating the "status" of homosexuals up to 100% of everyone else, where it should be.

Or alternately, as I wish to see it, canning government regulated marriage altogether. hetero, homo, whatever... marriage is a religious construct, and if you want to partner up with someone for life that ought to be a matter of contract law with appropriate language. God marries you, the state pairs you economically under contract, period end of story.

  36. You know who is REALLY Pissed Off? Hillary Clinton! Because John McCain had the guts to do something that Obama was too chicken to do--put a wooman on the ticket.

Palin makes McCain more palatable now.

And BTW, yes, I vote with the folks who think she's a Sexy Librarian.

    ReplyDelete
  37. If McCain wants to prove he is the coolest MoFo on the planet he would print alternative yard signs with only Her name on them.

(to give people that hate him but love her a reason to put their full support behind her.)

  38. I thought you would like the following article Breda, especially the 'naughty librarian' part. I think you have a lot in common with Sarah.
