Ted Kennedy is dead. Brain tumor, Mary Jo, Chappaquiddick, womanizer, alcoholic, blah, blah, blah...I think I covered most everything but if not, whatever.

What bothers me are articles like this one from Yahoo news, titled Kennedy death puts family dynasty in doubt which contain paragraphs such as this:
Kennedy's cancer diagnosis and then his death have stirred speculation over who might succeed the third-longest serving U.S. senator, and whether a new generation could emerge from under his shadow.
and
Options are limited for another Kennedy to inherit the Senate seat held by the family for nearly five decades. Kennedy's nephew, Joseph, -- the eldest son of Robert Kennedy -- is often cited as a possibility.
We do not "inherit" Senate seats in the United States and now that there seem to be "no heirs to the Kennedy name poised to emerge with the same mix of gravitas, ambition and celebrity," I'll happily say good riddance to Camelot.

  1. Poor malignant tumor...dead at an early age from an inoperable Kennedy.

  2. The bloodletting that occurs after one of these old bulls succumbs is often vicious. Quite right that their is no heir but the real issue is the power of the family is in decline so the heir would be weak in any case. There are decades of old grudges that will now be released within the MA Dem establishment. The only way to ensure an heir is to step aside and protect them from the machine by remaining in the seat until his death, Kennedy ensured the outcome was uncertain.

The first sign of the battle was the ignoring of Kennedy's plea to return the succession back to the governor's pleasure. Obviously, the powers that be did not want Kennedy's chosen to be appointed when they can fight it out in a special election.

  4. +1 what JKB said:
"We do not "inherit" Senate seats in the United States"

Kennedy was attempting to change the rules back to an appointment system so that just that could be done!

  5. And now the long knives come out amongst those vying for his seat.

  6. Just as the collective IQ of the House of Representatives rose with the departure of Cynthia McKinney, so now the Senate has its turn...

    If only they would....

I wonder who teddy will vote for as his successor.

  8. Dear Ms. Breda,

    I second that!

  9. Fifty years in the Senate is too long for one person, it allows too much power to concentrate in one place.

  10. Wonder if his retroactively-bastardized children will show at the funeral? Or be considered for his interim replacement?

WV: pacrad Yes I am, pretty much so.

  11. +1, Breda.
It saddens and amazes me that the people who elected this scumbag multiple times still yearn for a Kennedy-esque "dynasty", and will probably elect someone just as repulsive to replace him.

  12. +1 Breda.

Remember when this used to be America?

This kinda crap enrages me. It literally gives me little muscle quivers and a stress headache.

  17. Our friends in the MSM have been beating the drum for dynastic rule ever since the JFK presidential campaign.

You'd think they'd know better by now, but for some reason the idea of representative democracy bothers 'em...

  18. You left out treason. He went through an intermediary to send a message to the leaders of the soviet union, offering his services to help them during the Reagan Administration.

I know this sounds outrageous, but it's true. Here's an interview with an author that wrote a book about Pr. Reagan. http://www.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=30980

This was reported in the UK and in Poland when the files first came to light after the fall of the U.S.S.R. but was ignored by the press in the United States.

I vaguely remembered this from several years ago, and looked for what I could find. I know you are a librarian, and can quickly verify if this is a valid story.

My last two posts concern this, my main point being that this is not drinking, womanizing, or even leaving a woman to die in an air pocket in the back of a car. This speaks directly to his conduct as a Senator and an American citizen.
