  1. Cory Doctorow? So sorry to hear that.

    Hot Damn! H. G. Wells!

  2. I also write like Cory Doctorow. Hey at least I don't write like some 19th century socialist.

  3. Three separate posts netted me Cory Doctorow, Arthur C. Clark, and Stephen King.

    Hmmm...

I'm suddenly dubious about their methodology. ;)

  4. J the B: Isn't Cory a 21st century socialist?

  5. I expected "monkey on glue banging on typewriter," but I got Doctorow also.

  6. Now I'm dying to see the algorithm.

Syllable count? Frequency of punctuation? Words/paragraph?

It's just killing me that I can't get under the hood. :(

(That, and R2D2 has never heard of P.J. or Miss King, both of whom it would be more accurate to say I "ape in a shamelessly fangirlish style" than "write like"...)

  7. Three chunks out of a short edit cut-out from "Fighter Pilot" got me Dan Brown, P.J. Lovecraft, and James Joyce. I don't think there was much stylistic shift in the 1200 word total piece.

Read it all, if you want:

  8. My paper on the problems with current (well '04-'05) de-mining operations in Afghanistan got me Isaac Asimov. That's pretty cool.

  9. I got Doctorow too, but also David Foster Wallace (who?), Chuck Palahniuk and a Stephen King... What the hell IS in that algorithm?

  10. Apparently I write like Stephen King or James Joyce depending on what post I put in.

I was really hoping for Robert Parker or Dashiell Hammett

  11. Dan Brown, and for the same text a few days later, Cory Doctorow. Stephen King with the Mike-dialogue.

    They're just guessin'!

  12. I ran a few of my blog posts and got a bit of Robert Louis Stevenson, some Dan Brown, Stephen King, David Foster Wallace, and a few others. My wife got a similar jumble. For kicks and giggles, we ran an essay by G.K. Chesterton through it and it said he wrote like Dan Brown. Whatever algorithm it uses is seriously unreliable.

    God bless!

  13. Random author generator

  14. Lawdog got Doctorow, I got Doctorow... I suspect it's the subject matter.

  15. Dan Brown. Whom I've never, ever read. Nor intend to.

  16. Me too. When I'm not writing like James Joyce.

  17. Dug up a two year old drunken livejournal rant that got me Vladamir Nabakov. Random author generator sounds about right.

  18. I got him, too. Cory Doctorow twice, Stephen King and Kurt Vonnegut.

I have no idea who Cory Doctorow is, though.

  19. I got William Gibson consistently with submissions of my writing. Then I started chopping out bits and got different authors. But when I kept putting in the same original chapter, I kept getting William Gibson. I can live with that.
