baby, it's cold outside...

...so thanks to the magic and wonder of Netflix, Mike and I have been hiding out snuggling on the sofa with cats, fleece blankets and whiskey, watching television shows. One of our favorites lately has been Bones, which I must really like because I can usually make it through 2 whole shows without falling asleep.

The lead character in Bones is forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, played by the casually and yet devastatingly gorgeous Emily Deschanel. In one of my favorite scenes, Brennan pulls a Smith and Wesson M500 .50 revolver out of her handbag, much to the dismay of her partner, FBI agent Seeley Booth.
Booth: "You know, people see you with that, the next thing you know everyone in this place is gonna start packing."

Brennan: "This is America. Get used to it."
I couldn't believe my ears.

  1. I found Bones the show to be incredibly fun to watch, and that actress is indeed easy on the eyes.

You also quoted my most favorite scene out of all the episodes I've seen!

    Good stuff!

  2. I'm shocked that line made it into a network TV series.

And in a positive light no less.

    Amazing.

  3. Too bad the actress herself doesn't share such sentiments... but Bones IS a great show.

  4. I say this in all seriousness.

If you were to recreate this picture, joined by some of your sister bloggers (Phlegmy, Jennifer, Tam, Brigid, etc) - no cheesecake, just good shooty goodness - you could raise some serious dough for e.g. Second Amendment Sisters with a Calendar.

You might even get Oleg to shoot the pix.

If you were to get some daughters and nieces (as examples of girls learning shooting from women), that would make it even more powerful.

I'd think it would be nothing to sell a thousand, at $25 each. At cost of good @ $5, that would be $20k for SAS.

    Just thinking out loud.

As I said, it's not about cheesecake - as your picture isn't. It's about "Don't Tread On Me."

  5. Hmm Ive watched that show and never realized she was related to Zooey. Makes sense though. The gorgeous eyes give it away.

I'm shocked that line made it through the anti-gun Hollywood censors. Perhaps they were trying to be "edgy?"

  6. I love that show and the character.

    Smart, beautiful, women with guns!

  7. I am sorry, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder... I find her quite unattractive myself......Good show though..

  8. I'm sorry, but in this vein nothing beats "Miss Congeniality":

Kathy Morningside: Of course he had a gun. This is Texas! Everybody has a gun. My florist has a gun!

Stan Fields: I don't own a gun. My ancestors were Quakers.

  9. Don't get too used to it. In the first few episodes they really play up the self-reliant side of Brennan, but eventually turn it into something of a joke. And Booth continually under-cuts Brennan's attempts to defend herself. It's one of the reasons I quit watching for a while.

  10. It is surprising when lines like that make it past the Hollyweird censors. One of my other favorites is from the Jericho series a few years back. From the last episode:

    Unknown delegate:

    20 minute orientation
    An hour roundtable discussion
    2 hours for lunch
A 1000 person town hall meeting and boom, the 2nd amendment's gone.

    Mayor Gray Anderson:

Well, it's a lot easier to pacify a country when its citizens can't shoot back.

    Delegate:

I'm sick of people telling me I worry too much.
This is the constitution we're talking about, not a stereo manual.

  11. Yeah, she's very manly looking, can't act, has a nail on the blackboard voice, is as leftwing both on the show and off as Hillary, and holds a firearm like a wok. Other than that not bad stuff there.

  12. ^ What Fits said.

Amanda has those on dvd, and I don the headphones and Winamp. gah.

That said, I really hate most cop dramas. Cheerleaders for the police state. Don't even start me on CSI..

    Is a good quote though.

  13. I'm with Fits! Best character on that show was Zack, the looney, and he's gone. I'll stick with reruns of "Jericho" on Netflix.

  14. I'm hooked on it, some episodes are annoying but overall it's great. I think my favorite character is probably the prosecutor.
