Bjork explains TV

Friday elfin cuteness, Icelandic-style.

Watch the whole thing to hear the moral of her story!

  1. Ummm. Ok.

One of two things are happening here. Either there is something about Icelandic culture that cannot be translated that makes her, by her cultural standards, normal, or the drugs have severely weakened her connection with our world.

    Could be both, though.

  2. I came across this video a few years ago and instantly fell in love. Her music? I don't listen to it, but I am definately a fan of Bjork! Adorable!

ps. Yes, my friends still laugh at me over this.

  3. She can wear her hair as a tribute to Einstein (or Buckwheat), but it doesn't automatically translate into smart.

To be fair though, I was sure that she'd do something to irreparably damage that TV and she did not.

  4. She's a cutie, yes indeed.

I'm half way in, and thinking "Be CAREFUL what you touch inside a TeeVee!". Getting zapped by the flyback would set her on her butt.

    *blinks again*

"you shouldn't let poets lie to you"?

I think I'll go watch TV now.

  7. What an amusing parable - I hope she enjoys her tv, and maintains a healthy skepticism toward all the truth-makers.

  8. Um... yeah, she is DEFINITELY different... :-)

  9. I've been told that it is not exactly smart to go poking around the innards of a television, especially the CRT types. But since nothing happened, I can only assume that damn poet lied to me.

  10. As Heinlein wrote (I'm paraphrasing, because I'm too lazy to look it up right now), "People who read poetry in public may have other nasty habits."

  11. Did you know that there is a part, on the inside of a TV, that can electrocute you even if the TV has been unplugged for days?

  12. Between the awe-inspiring scientific truth here, and her kicking the media's ass (literally. She beat the shit out of a journalist. The got it on camera. I lol'ed.), I like Bjork.

  16. I'd never heard of her, so off to Google I went.

Apparently she's an Euro pop musician of some popularity, and not a ditzy 20 year old like I first thought. This makes ""you shouldn't let poets lie to you"" recursively ironic.

  17. @lee n. field and JB Miller, I was thinking exactly what you were -- "I sure hope I'm not about to watch Bjork discover the flyback resistor the hard way."

Also, I'm starting to feel old -- I remember hearing the Sugar Cubes (her old band) on the radio when they first broke in the U.S., 1987-88ish.

  18. @Ken: You feel old? I still wonder what it was she and the other guy from the Sugar Cubes were shouting on Saturday Night Live when SNL cut their mikes and went to commercial.

I've found video of their first song on SNL, but the incident happened on their second song.

  19. I think, in a way, what she said was great because it casn be translated to don't believe doom saying moonbat liberals but put more faith in something which has been explained to you in detail by someone who has actual knowledge of it. Almost like she is on the verge of growing up and wanting to learn something.

What a wonderful philosophy, if indeed it is now her's but then again she sure seems absolutely daft.

  20. This woman does not age! Very interesting. She is certainly odd, but that's part of what makes her so endearing.
BTW-We have SugarCubes on vinyl. And have you seen Dancer in the Dark?

  21. Generally, you're okay inside an off and unplugged TV as long as you don;t go taking it apart. The nice, fat wire that connects the flyback to the tube is where you will get zapped when you unplug it -- and that, only if you touch the shiny bits.

Don't let poets repair your TV -- and don't expect engineers to write verse; but one *is* more likely then the other...

  22. I think she would have reach a wider audience if she put the moral of the story this way:

Winston Smith or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Television.

    just a thought.

  23. Um, elf? I clicked on the link and got three dudes facing down fifteen hungry lions feeding on their kill. "Twixt expecting something funny and that video, I have filled my MDR of cognitive dissonance, thankyouverymuch. And my coffee hasn't kicked in yet, either.
