bath bomb

I ran across this fun little item somewhere in the interwebs last night and immediately went to the website.
"Hey!" I thought. "It's soap! Shaped like a grenade! Neato." (they also have baby head soap, both available in a variety of colors and scents.) It's made here in Ohio and at $9, it'd make fun gift. As an added incentive, they donate 1% from each grenade sale to the Wounded Warrior Project. Cool, right?

Then I got to the disclaimer at the end of the page. I just couldn't believe it. It reads:

STINKYBOMB DISCLAIMER:
THIS ITEM SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN ON AIRPLANES. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM AND THEN GIVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO IS ABOUT TO STEP ON A PLANE. DO NOT ASSUME THAT PUTTING IT IN YOUR CHECK IN LUGGAGE WILL ALLOW THE SOAP TO PASS ANY AIRPORT SECURITY SCANNERS.

Really, TSA? Seriously?

    The wife and I were at Patriot's Point Museum last fall, and their gift shop has some rather precious warning signs next to the deactivated grenades and the pens made of .50BMG rounds. One near the pens read "take this to school and get a free vacation!"

    If you plan on taking a bath on an airplane, just use regular soap. That is what I do.

    Years ago, I worked for Gateway, when they had their stores. They rented out the classrooms to organizations that included the newly-formed TSA. The TSA was running a screening program for applicants. Most could not read their instructions, which included "Stores open at 9:00 AM", evidenced by their pounding on the door at 8:30 or so. Many looked about one step up from street people, and smelled like it. That initial impression was confirmed in the subsequent years.

    If they hold this soap in the air on a plane it might look like a real grenade so it's possible to make the passengers and crew do your bidding, like get into first class. :-]
