trendsetting

Women, when joined in a common cause, have long been a driving force for change in western culture. We fought for suffrage, threw off our corsets, and got to work. The world has not been the same since.

So here we are now, women as purely free people - able to control our own destinies and to be as strong and as bold as we desire. Liberties abound, ours for the taking, and the choices we make today as gunowners can ensure that future generations will be able to scoff at the idea that we were once somehow less, and even more so that someone dared reinforce the notion. "How absurd," they'll say, the concept of women being victimized as the weaker sex as barbaric and abhorrent as the practice of footbinding is to us in the present. "Why didn't they just carry a gun?" And why not, indeed.

So, women, carry your guns.

You can create the future while securing your own.

*special thanks to NancyR for loaning me her Sweet Daughter for an afternoon during the 2011 NRA Annual Meeting. We ate brownies, got free tactical hats, giggled at kitty videos on the internet, rode up and down (& up and down) the escalators, carried a stuffed bunny around the exhibit hall...all while I carried a gun on my hip - and it was fun! The new normal, one girl at a time.

** And EXTRA special thanks to JayG, my own personal paparazzi.

  2. The Ex and the Husband In Law went with me to the gun show a couple of weeks ago, and The Ex was shopping for a pistol.

She picked up a Bersa Thunder (I had gotten her one when we were married that got stolen), and KatyBeth said, "You should get one, Mom. That's what Miss Breda carries."

Figured you'd get a kick out of that. ;)

  3. I dunno, don't you think there's still time & place for corsets, provided that's your thing?

I think Mom W. will have her own Bersa soon, and I'll bet it won't be long before Sweet Daughter is carrying herself. She's certainly got great parents and a good head on her shoulders as far as I've seen.

Okay, that is officially cooler than dammit. :)

  5. (grumble, grumble) blogger. It ate half my comment. How it ate it out of the middle, I will never know, but it shoulda said:

"...That picture and the message attached? That gives me the warm and fuzzies."

There! Now I look less like I drool on my keyboard between assaults on the English language.

KatyBeth, possessor of a lucky fin herself, thinks Miss Breda is the embodiment of the kick-ass, modern, modular woman.

  7. Sweet Daughter thinks the sun rises and sets on Miss Breda. A librarian with cats and guns -- it doesn't get any better than that. Breda -- You may borrow her any time you like!

  8. The sun DOES rise and set on Breda...tho Breda herself will never admit to such things.

Neither will her Lovely mom...nor the equally lovely Kathy Jackson.

What's with it with super-awesome women?

  9. Young ladies, all around the country, pointing to Bersa Thunders, saying "that's the gun Miss Breda carries".

Heh, heh, heh. The Brady's and the Japetes and the Helmkes and all the rest of their Anti-Gun ilk should just jump off the bridge now. They've lost the next generation.

  10. I gotta second Tam. (Or, by now, third.) That IS officially cooler than dammit.

  11. I'm reading this post to Sweet Daughter, and she says she'd really like to meet your kitties one day. And thank you for letting her ride the escalators up and down and up and down and up and down.

    Thank you for indulging her!

  13. Just wait till this awesome pic wanders across some jihadist site and their heads start 'sploding from seeing armed women.....

Sounds like a good line to put on a Bersa advertisement in a gun magazine.

  19. I just hope someone from the Brady Bunch sees that picture; the thought of a child being near a person wearing a firearm should cause some major PSH.

  20. I have it on good authority that the person snapping that picture was also wearing a firearm... :)

  21. I know tweaker said he wouldnt, so I have to....
I personally always approve of women throwing off corsets...and anything else they wish to disrobe as well.

Very cute picture. I hope my daughter continues to have good role models like her mom, you and Nancy.

  22. Mike W,

If wearing corsets is your thing, knock yourself out.

  24. Now a bike shop is no longer the only place to find a great bike, you can find one online and have it shipped to your door and assembled in under ten minutes.
