Poor old Machiavelli sure takes it on the chin. We do stuff everyday that he'd only justify to save the polis. He's Entry One on the bogus college exams that give you a quote other than the famous one, and ask you to guess who said it.
In his day--a rough day, to be sure--he was a great champion of individual liberty. 'Course, most of us now use selective honesty and back-stabbin as the easy route to liberty, so there you go.
Know who else wasn't the SOB he's painted as? 'Poor, nasty, brutish and short' Thomas Hobbes. Go figure.
gregg, Jesuit, hoo-ah. Breda, weren't you the "It" Girl at Priory of Sion High?
Be polite, please. (also I'd like to add that I reserve the right to delete any and all comments that I find offensive, argumentative, or just plain tiresome.)
