how life was

Google is now hosting LIFE magazine's photo archive. All images, some of them never before published, are searchable by subject.

I found some wonderful little glimpses of the past...

History and eye candy, all in one place. Enjoy.

  1. Oh noes! She has a gun!

    Cue histeria in 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

You know, when I was a wee lad, I had cap guns, too. Some of them shot actual plastic bullets (spring loaded, so no danger other than yo your eyeballs). Good luck finding anything like that today.

  2. I like the ones where an officer is teaching gun safety to some school kids:

  4. These days, her parents would probably be arrested, and CPS would ensure she never saw them again.

Strange how "far" we have come...

  5. Well we can certainly claim to be "progressive" the past 50+ years.....

Problem is it's not so much progression as it is regression.

  6. I have a great fondness for pictures of girls from the supposedly patriarchal 40s and 50s training with and using guns. These are great; thank you.

I've blogged about these on my site. [Link since apparently trackbacks from non-blogger/google sites don't work.]

Here's pictures of a Los Angeles[!] girls' high school rifle team training in a range set up amongst the school lockers.

  8. Now, I would love to know what kind of a terrible person she became - but not shocked if I found out that she was a wonderful woman that has just celebrated her birthday with family and friends. Lots of love in her world, lots of love -- and a few guns around when she enjoyed them.
