dress up

Seems all the gunbloggers are buying these 5.11 khakis, even tough guy JayG and the impeccably stylish SayUncle. Mike has a pair and loves them. Unfortunately, there is really nothing like this for women - we can't just go up an inch in the waist if we want to carry inside the waistband and the pockets in most women's jeans aren't even big enough to carry a decent pocketknife. Men's pants are usually cut wrong for a woman's curves, and the tactical stuff I have seen for women is ugly, highwaisted, and sure as hell doesn't come in petite.

I could make a fortune if I was able to design women's tactical/IWB pants that actually made your butt look cute too.

  1. Were the cargo pants you wore in Charlotte not "tactical?"

  6. Pants don't make the butt. The butt makes the pants.

Quoted for Truth! You are a wise man Alan. (not a wise latina)

I 2nd Dixie. Tactical pants AND tactical corset. Sounds like perfect attire for Pittsburgh.

  10. Maybe we could get Wai involved in the design. He is an architect, after all. I am sure he could help with the structure to ensure that the foundation is flattered...

  11. have you tried the 5.11 women's pants?
    just sayin....

they may work GREAT, never know

I know I wear either Carhart or 5.11 pants EVERY DAY, and 5.11 shorts on the weekends when its warm, I have thought about getting my wife a pair of the women's pants and seeing if she'd wear them

IIRC my friends mom likes these pants.

  13. Alan,

    True, 'dat.

However, there are clothes that can make you look WAAAY worse. Like my dysfunctional fascimile of a fashion sense, or a flight suit.

Almost nobody, but especially short people or females, looks better than "Meh" in a flight suit.

On teh other hand, I once saw a crew chief on a Blackhawk who made a flight suit look good.

I spent the entire time to the LZ trying to figure out what she would look like in real clothes. Could not manage the mental feat, as I couldn;t imagine how a female about five and half feet tall managed to look like anything but an olive drab vacuum bag in a flightsuit.

  15. I don't think it matters what pants you wear - a petite carrying heat and smiling? That's all its gonna take for most real men!!

  16. Supposedly 5.11 has a new women's cut that "flatters a woman's figure." I haven't seen any to try on at the local 5.11 full-line dealer, so I can't confirm or deny. They're too expensive to buy without trying, since their other women's pants are way too short for me.

When I had to wear business casual to work, I just bought the men's 28x34's. When they were selling out the desert digicam's at TWO pair for $19.95, I bought some just because the price was too good to pass up. They're my "fugly gun school pants."

  17. I actually spent 1 1/2 days shooting a repro Brown Bess flintlock in stays (a.k.a. an 18th century corset). It ended up giving me what felt like a mild case of whiplash. I'm guessing that since the stays kept my torso fairly immobile, my neck absorbed all the shock.

  18. Stopping at size 16 tosses me out of the buying pool. Give us plus-sized women shooters down South a break and sell size 18 and up in shorts--I promised to buy several.

    You mean a "torset".

  20. I'm a total 5.11 brand whore. I've got at least 10 pairs of pants or shorts, and a half dozen shirts, all in different colors. I haven't gone so far as to get the underwear, shoes or socks, but if they're as good as the shirts and pants, I just might. Plus, their HQ is about an hour up the road, so if there's an issue with anything, I can pay them a visit.

  22. My girlfriend loves wearing these women's pants. When she goes pant shopping she always has to stop and look at the cargo pants. There is just something about them that drives her crazy.
