According to my drill sergeant back in basic I made a pretty funny face and gave my rifle a weird look the first time I fired an M16. He asked what's wrong and I just said something along the lines of: "Nothing, I'm just used to my old Winchester, so this one makes funny noises."
Huh, I thought I was the only one who hated that 'sproing,' never heard any mention of it up 'til now. Thankfully my AR-10 doesn't do that or else I'd probably never shoot the thing.
If you ever get down this way I will turn you on to the ORIGINAL gas piston AR, the AR-180. No sproing at all.
I still think you guys need to get your papers together and get what you need done and go get you and Mike each a Garand.
You are practically living at the CMP North Store, compared to how far many people drive to get there!
I can ONLY post if I go and sign up to Google AGAIN each time I want to post. Wish I could find a way to contact them, but they don't seem to want to be contacted.
Holding an AR-15, especially an unloaded display model, does not make anyone look like a demented maniac. As JayG noted, looking like a demented maniac is a burden to be worn with good humor, and requires no props.
I must admit I prefer my piston guns, or even my Mini 14 over the one AR I own. Try a LWRC or RobArm's XCR, they dont make funny noises and both of them came in a grey color so they arent even true "black" rifles. I mean, who looks demented with a light grey rifle? lol
Be polite, please. (also I'd like to add that I reserve the right to delete any and all comments that I find offensive, argumentative, or just plain tiresome.)
Note: Only a member of this blog may post a comment.
That is an unfortunate pic Breda, the AR was NOT adjusted correctly for you.

ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, I've since gotten over it.
I always loved the AR 10.
ReplyDeleteI just couldn't afford one.
I currently want a 505 Gibbs.
Just in case I happen across a water buffalo or elephant.
I'll chip in for Breda a Garand if everyone else will.

ReplyDeleteBreda, you need to give my Ruger PC 9 a try. It feel like a 10/22 but makes 9mm holes.
ReplyDeleteDroid post
I got used to it sounding like a screen door slamming with every shot.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't figured out why some AR's sproing and some don't. My A2 setup doesn't. At all.
ReplyDeletemy .22 AR doesn't sproing I dont think.

ReplyDeleteI agree, Breda. The sproing weirds me out too.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with the AR?? It was so nice to me down in Texas!!
ReplyDeleteThat's the sproing of freedom!
ReplyDeleteAnd if *anyone* looks demented, I would posit it was other members of your party at the NRA con... ;)
Speak for yourself Jay.
ReplyDeleteI was...
ReplyDeleteThe fear of teh SPROING passes -- and you even learn to use it to tell the bolt has locked back on an empty magazine by the difference in sound.
ReplyDeleteBut it is a silly sound, distracting at first.
FWIW, my fiancee thinks you look like Kaylee from Firefly in that photo. ;)
ReplyDelete>>I am not really a demented maniac.
ReplyDeleteYeah, sure, that's what they all say. Later on there's running and screaming.
:)

ReplyDeleteYou look like a Zombie Killer to me.
