B. Hussein Obama

This picture may be worth a thousand words but I'm at a loss....

Update: I found some words. They are not mine:

During a rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform should stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. Men not in uniform should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. -- United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171

I've decided to hold off on commenting on this while my blood pressure drops off a bit.

That way, I can avoid using some pretty disparaging and highly un-PC phrases.

this is the sort of thing that bothers be about a lot of people...I have never in my entire life put my hand over my heart for the national anthem...the pledge to the flag...he is standing and not wering a hat, so he is showing the standard amount of respect for the national anthem.

lydia -
I don't know if he's doing it on purpose (like how he's refusing to wear a flag pin) but you'd think as a presidential candidate, he'd have a lot more sense than to offend a bunch of people.

ever think that he's not trying to offend, but just doing what he's always done? I sincerely doubt he did with the intent to offend...

*shrug*

I don't have any context to go with the picture...however, I don't stand with my hand over my heart for the national anthem. It's hard to sing that way.

Of course, I'm unpatriotic in other ways too. I don't say 'under God', when I do say the pledge at all...and I react poorly to any jingoistic pillorying of another person for not displaying 'allegiance' in the status-quo-expected way. No matter who they are, there are better barometers than this for who a person *is*, and what he/she really stands for.

Lydia, I'd say with his recent statements about his flag pin, and his feelings about America, coupled with the fact that his stance makes him the Odd man out on the stage, I'd say its intentional.

Now I don't think he was trying to offend people. Just the opposite, I belive he was trying to win the hearts of people who dislike the flag and other signs or respect to America. Sadly there are pleanty of people who look up to such things.

Well, then, I will gladly say what nobody seems willing to say...B. Hussein Obama is an ultra-Leftwing, America-hating idiot who has no buisness in politics AT ALL.

But if Democrats get their way, he will either be your next President or Vice President. And since they embrace the likes of B. Hussein Obama, then they must be like him.

associating all democrats with obama is just as ignorant as associating all republicans with bible thumping homophobes.

I find it difficult to believe that anyone running for president has any business in politics.

I agree with Amy. There are better barometers to judge him by.

And so far, he's failed every single one of them. This is actually a step up for him.

And Amy, the pledge isn't jingoistic, although it's turned into that for many. I don't like kids saying it every morning in school - cheapens what it means. I think citizenship shouldn't be automatically granted until you're 18, then you have to take a test (in English) that illustrates you are competent to vote and then pledge the allegiance to the flag for real. Under {insert Deity Here} or none is fine with me.

lydia, Breda already put up some quotes, but the standard is to place your hand over your heart. If you want to be president, there's a lot of pomp & circumstance that goes with the territory.

Obama is unfit to hold the office, this is just one of the many outliers that illustrate why.

Then again, I also agree with the mindset that anyone who wants to be president is already disqualified. Then again, anyone who is good at leading people gets picked up by corporations. The rest go into politics.

He's holding his hand over his crotch, so maybe is is being respectful...

Lydia,

The 'Bible-thumping homophobes' in the GOP do not raise 70 million bucks for their Presidential campaign.

The way B. Hussein Obama has gotten the kind of money and recognition he has garnered is through the support of millions upon millions of Democrats.

And no, not every single Democrat is like Obama, but the Party itself is defined by the likes of Obama....and as they say, birds of a feather...

Bothered? Let's talk bothered...I love the republic above all, and despise the pledge of allegiance. A pledge to fabric, written by a supremacist socialist, originally accompanied by the fascist salute, taught as a mindless chant to those too young to understand the words: nothing could be more antithetical to real American citizenship. But unless I want my standing in the community to rise or fall on this one innocuous issue, I'd better keep gritting my teeth and mouthing it. Well, that's being a grown-up for you. And now, if I speak up, I'm an Obamist. I really needed that.

I also "gave up" on public atheism because, up until last summer, not worshipping God meant you worshipped Marx. Now, apparently, it means you're gay. Thanks for nothing, World Movements.

This is a free country. When you decide to run for President, you decide to salute the flag, be nice to veterans, and kiss babies without inhaling. I don't care if this guy has my build, shares my proclivities, and rides my brand of motorbike; he's an asshole. I don't care to be seen with him.

the original link to the photo stated that Obama and the other people in the photo were standing for the National Anthem, not the Pledge.

I try not to actually sing the anthem but kind of hum along because I don't want to wreck or ruin the hearing of anybody nearby or around me, my singing "voice" is pretty bad.
He shouldda just stuck his hands in his pockets and then we would have known where his identity-politics lay. ;-)
