better than octodogs

Since everyone and their (Say)Uncle has sent me this , I thought I'd pass it on. (I had to be reassured that they weren't real turtles before I'd click the link. )

good girl.

She ate 4 fat worms and a blackberry as big as my thumb...& then passed out in the weeds. Full tummy = a happy turtle.

For my birthday today, I'd like to give you a little something that is sure to make you smile.

Thank you all for being part of my life. I'm so lucky.

(now I might go have a turtle teaparty of my own!)

zooming!

Animal amputees always amaze me - they adapt so quickly and use whatever prosthetics they're given with such ease. There have been elephants with new legs, dolphins with replacement tails, a stork with a prosthetic beak and even turtles, which are just a delight...

It'd be so nice to just whip up a little epoxy, stick on some ping pong balls and go! Now who says turtles are slow?

here comes the sun

Northeast Ohio has a history of strange springtimes - either we get a week of perfectly mild days which leads directly into the full heat of summer or a seemingly endless string of rainy days. This year has been cool and wet, which leads to a great rush of gardening activity when the weather breaks and the sun comes out from behind the clouds. By the time that day arrives, the garden is overgrown with weeds and the perennials are already up - makes for an amusing game of "Did I plant that or...?" The labels are usually long lost and by the time you yank the bee balm out of the soil it's too late...

Anyway, yesterday was one of those days - I pulled weeds, planted nasturtium and chamomile seeds and had a little celebration with Myra. It was her first day outside since last year.

nomnomnom

Sonya the slow loris...

Finger lickin' good!

We have a worm aficionado in our own house who can attest to their divine and utter deliciousness. Maybe I could set up a lunch date.

Spring is here!

And that can only mean one thing...

...it's time for the annual Earthworm Massacre!

finally!

Did you feel it this morning? Something a little different about the world?

I got up this morning and found Myra wide awake and raring to go.

(Try out photobucket's new photo editing - Myra looks awesome as a cartoon!)

So spring has definitely arrived. No doubt about it this time. Yes, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping outside the window but I have someone who knows for sure.

Dear Tam,

This evening, after spending 8 glorious hours surrounded by books, I met Mike at the brewery. I had an absolutely divine pint of a freshly-tapped black IPA.

And, um...just in case that whole roommate thing doesn't work out, we have a spare room - although you'll probably have to bunk with the turtle.

love, Breda

p.s. and as an additional incentive? - lake effect snow!

On the bedside table.

I got a little bored with Ann Coulter's newest (It's a compilation of her snarkiest bits, which I'm sure I've already read someplace or another) so tonight I started Wyrd Sisters by Terry Pratchett. I'm only a few dozen pages in, but I can already tell that I'm going to have to find the entire series, in order, and...uh-oh. I just read on wikipedia that there's more than 40 books in the Discworld series. I'll try to pace myself.

I took this nifty quiz and the results were funny, and really kind of accurate. I scored as Nanny Ogg (note: beer)...and my second was the Librarian.

Which Discworld Character are you like (with pics)
created with QuizFarm.com
You scored as Gytha (Nanny) Ogg

You are Nanny Ogg! A talented witch, able to make yourself at home wherever you are, and insist that Greebo is just a big softie. You enjoy drinking, a lot, and singing about a hedgehog. You have a huge family, and get your daughters-in-law to do most of the housework. You are kind and gentle, and help put people at ease.

Meanwhile, my own little Great A'Tuin, Myra, is currently in the crabbiest part of her semi-hibernation. Is it coincidence that this happens simultaneously with bitterly cold snowstorms and absolutely no sunshine whatsoever? I think not.
