I tried out a 9mm today. I rented the only one they had available, a Beretta model 92 FS. It was a little bulkier than I prefer, the sights were a little low and a little left, but I liked it, it was fun to shoot. I shot about 90 rounds or so. Here's one of my targets:

Try a cz 82 in 9x18 Makarov. inexpensive and dead on accurate.
if you like the 92fs, try the Taurus version: http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=120819
it feels a tad better than the Beretta, to me.
Good shooting Breda!
