She would like children to turn in their weapons in exchange for cash or a gift card.
When children have their own personal secret stash of weapons and are shooting and murdering each other in the streets, this is NOT A GUN PROBLEM .
This is a symptom of a culture that has gone terribly wrong. This is a sign that adults are not parenting the children they bring into this world. Take away their guns and these children, who have not been raised with the values or morals that would make them actual human beings instead of base creatures driven by mindless instinct, will quickly and most assuredly find knives and blunt objects to act out their violence.
Last November, the city sponsored another gun buyback, called "Enough is Enough", bringing in over 400 weapons. They also encouraged children to bring in their toy guns to be exchanged for fast food restaurant gift certificates. I'm hoping they also handed out coupons for free parenting classes and/or sterilization to the adults. Enough is enough, indeed.

So she's telling us that elementary school teachers are arming students?
That what it sounds like to me is occurring, perhaps if they hadn't hijacked the language and decided a "buyBACK" meant something besides what it does.
In any case, if I had ever had a gun stolen I would be down at these evidence disposal events with a lawyer watching for my stolen property to turn up and demanding whoever had it face as many charges as would apply.
Ya know, one of these times I'm going to go down and watch the event, especially if this one gets pushed. I'd love to see how young some of these kids are. The news never seems to show the thugs, they focus on the women and old people who turn in a dead husband's gun or something like that...never many gang-bangers shown on the news.
Better idea...
Why don't we hold our own gun buyback event? Think about it. If I can get guns for handing out BigMac coupons, that sounds like a hell of an idea when compared to going to the gun store or show and shelling out hundreds for a decent piece.
Brava, Breda!
I would even go further with the proposition, however. Most of the juvenile offenders, not just the elementary students, are in the Juvenile Justice system because of a lack of parenting.
I don't blame divorce. I raised my children in a single -parent home after a divorce. Neither of them has been arrested, has any children outside of marriage, has a drug or alcohol problem. They are both financially self-sufficient and have been since the age of 19. They maintain stable employment. One is in the process of attaining a BA in English. So I don't want to hear any sob stories from the Libs about "Single Parent homes" and "Children of Divorce".
They excelled in school and extracuricular activities because they had a nurturing home with RULES and expectations that they would always try to do their best.
Oh, my daughter got her first rifle at age 12. My son got a shotgun at that age. So Guns and shooting were one of their activities.
*much eyerolling here*
The peoples republic of Cleveland....
I got to spend a few hours in the ER last night, watching exactly these kinds of people.
The world needs a good flush......
Whammo!
I coulntaf said it betterer my self!
You rock and i bet you dance too!
Oy, I missed that one. Somehow I suspect that guns aren't that easy to get, and gangbangers aren't stupid enough to turn them in. If they get anything, it will be because some kid stole his dad's prize piece to turn in for burger money.
