I just got my first "the British have no guns and their society is better than the US" type comment - and honestly, it made me laugh out loud.
It's a good idea to do a little research before commenting because if you don't, well...a librarian might just feel inspired to make you look sadly misinformed. (like "stumpydoberman", the commenter.)
What's this about Britain having no guns again?

The best research on that topic is with our own justice department. They seem to keep better track of violent crime in GB than the Brits do. At least, publicly.
What is astounding is the Brits arrest/conviction rate for violent crime. In single digits.... and the percentage of crimes reported to the police.... in the low 20/30% range.
As I recall..... about 2500 wealthier Brits are applying to emigrate every week. For good.
The Dutch are "gun-free" as well. Here's the result.

How exactly is gun-control supposed to prevent this? And how is this woman "safer" because she's unarmed?
Also, remember that anyone that tells you "gun crime in Britain is way lower than the U.S." is distorting the issue. The issue is total violent crime, which of course is far worse than the U.S.

I just got back from asking about gun permit classes. Those women were creepy, but I got the information I needed. Whee, Saturday morning bright and early! Why can't they ever be right after work? Oh well, I'll be there, half asleep, cranky, and armed.
The only thing they seem to be better at is blaming the tool. They march backwards in time, slowly removing means of defense, first projectile weapons, now they go after knives
They've even gone so far as arresting children in trees on the feat that they might have been trying to acquire a club. info here
Such a wonderful society they have. If the morons in charge here weren't so determined to follow their lead over the cliff it might be comedic.
I am a Brit and I shoot , anyone can have rifles and shotguns here if they join a club .
Like any ( every ) country ,criminals
will get firearms illegally , they are the problem not the guns .
It is well know that percentage wise the crime rate and gun crime rate is higher here than the US .
