I never answer the phone, anyone who knows me knows to leave a message on the machine. If I'm home (which is most of the time. Srsly. I am so boring.), and I want to speak to you, I will pick up. If I don't want to speak to you, I'll call back later with some lame excuse like, "I was in the bathroom" or "I went shopping". This is one of the reasons why I still don't have a cell phone. If I am reluctant to answer the phone in my house when I am sitting right next to it, I think having a cell phone constantly on my person would make me crazy - I'd be pitching it out the car window within a week. But I guess when I get my CCW I'll have to give in and join the modern age. Just don't expect me to have the thing turned on. Or to actually give out the phone number.
Anyway, my mom called yesterday morning, let the machine pick up and yelled, "Breda! Pick up!"
Sheesh. Okay. I picked up.
She said,"I just talked to Colleen and guess where I'm going on Friday?"
My mom flew out to Arizona last night to visit with her brother and my cousins, one of whom is Colleen. "Ummm, I dunno, Mom. The casino?"
"No, I'm going to the range!" She sounded really excited.
My cousin Colleen and her husband have a lot of guns. In fact, they have an entire gun room.
"We're also taking Tom to the range. He's never held a gun in his entire life!"
Tom is my mom's first cousin who is also visiting Arizona. Tom probably has never held a gun because, before this trip, he has never been out of Ireland.
This is a man who has lived with his father on a dairy farm in County Laois his entire life. They just installed indoor bathroom facilities in the 90s. The 1990s. A rural, small town, salt of the earth kind of guy - visiting the Wild West.
I hope my mom takes a lot of photos.

Cool! Get a report!
If you dislike the phone that much (I hate talking on the damn thing, but I hate being out-of-touch, so I actully like mine...but people don't call me much anyway) Just buy a cheap cell from an electronics store and keep it charged and in your pocket. Even with no network service you can still dial 911 and the towers will automatically route you to the closest PD. No monthly fees, no incomming calls. Hell since it takes minuets for emergency responce there isn't even a need to keep it ON. Just turn it on once you're in a safe place and make your call, and just top off the battery 2-3X a year. Also a good idea to keep one in your nightstand in case a home invador cuts your phone line, or takes a phone off the base before you can place your call....
Only drawback would you can't call AAA without network service, and they've saved my ass on MANY an occation.
A tracphone would fix that. Just don't give out the number, and it won't ring....or never turn it on, even better!
WooHoo!! Good for your mom!
The ranges here in AZ are pretty good.
Weer'd Beard nailed it; Tracfone is the way to go.
Word verification: cafnbrda. caffeine breda?
Yea Mom!
Not just any report, a _COMPLETE_ report!
Which range. (AZ offers several options - Ben Avery, Rio Salado, SGC, Caswells, Shooter's World and probably more just in the Phoenix metro area.
Target pics?
Can we add any pics to P.O.T.G???
I second the question: where in AZ?
That's awesome! We do the same thing with the phone - it's just for leaving messages.
