classic projection, Hollywood style

Way back when - when I was just a new gunblogger - I wrote something about the movie The Brave One, starring Jodie Foster. While doing interviews for the promotion of the film, Ms. Foster had this to say about guns:
"I don't believe that any gun should be in the hand of a thinking, feeling, breathing human being. Americans are by nature filled with rage-slash-fear...violence corrupts absolutely." (Entertainment Weekly, 30 August, 2007)
This quote should come as no surprise. It seems feelings of violence and rage are things Ms. Foster knows quite well.
"Look, it's terrible, I know, but weakness really, really bugs me, to the point that if there is a wounded bird on the sidewalk, I look at it and I go: 'I think I'll just kick it.'" (Daily Mail, 27 May, 2008)

Is it so butch, to kick a hapless bird? Sheesh.

That's such an ODD thing to say. There's a vast gulf between weakness and fragility, and we all have our soft spots, even oober-lesbians.

I almost blogged about this story, but decided otherwise. I think it's bizarre that JF would strive these many years to remain private about her relationships.

BTW, in Feb 1994, I was at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London, seeing Ruth Brown perform. Got there late and snagged the last tiny table in the house, at the very back. Two blonde women with short hair were at the next table in tuxedos. Was certain then that one of them was JF. Having seen her Ex's photo, I have no doubt it was them.

It reminds me of my sister who is anti-gun. The discussion came up about why I study martial arts, her belief was that I study so I could kill people. Because that is what she would do.

(sigh)
It's the old psychology thing. They are projecting how they feel onto the pro-gun population at large.

SOrry - didn't complete the thought - odd that JF would take such steps to remain private, even to the point of not hiring household staff b/c of gossip, and now she's part of a couple with a media-whore-type. NOT that there's anything wrong with whoredom in its many, varied forms. ;)

Yeah, I won't name names, but there are folks in my family that I wouldn't trust with a gun because I know that their impulse would be to use it the first time someone offended them.

Of course, when your only real exposure to guns is shooting blanks at psychopaths in films, of course you're going to think that the only purpose of a gun is to carry out vengeance.

And I wouldn't be surprised if she's a member of PETA...

I just followed the link and said :"Wow, Jodie Foster is dating Michael Jackson!"

Heh

If Jodie likes kicking defencless things, of course she'd be all about disarming us....that way she could kick us all while her body guards held us down.

I'm going to fish around for the only real positive thing I can think of from her comments and say that at least she recognises her own tendencies and temper and is responsible enough with that to not carry a gun herself.

I am sure kicking an animal is a felony, unless it was in self defense.

How unfortunate. I have long enjoyed her acting and directing in the past.

Jodie Foster was a child actress, and was raised as such. Experience tells us that girls reared under Disney don't do too well as adults. The whole Hinkley interaction undoubtedly did little to set her on a solid base, as well.

I am beginning to believe that it is impossible for people with enormous amounts of fame and fortune to end up as normal thinking humans. There is something so insular about money and the ability to speak to lots of people, along with the effect that the medias' fauning over one's beauty, which causes a person to go a little nutty.

I believe that I would like money enough to provide me more opportunites for leisure, but not fame.

I hope she imediatley seeks therapy for her feelings and emotions of rage and helplessness, as well as the urge to strike out in cruel and heartless ways.

I like the movie though.

Perhaps she should refrain from speaking on matters of public policy until she has attained a calmer and more rational mental state.

Just saying.
