Actually, the chance to make a difference comes in two years, with Congressional and Senate races. If President Obama (retch) screws things up as badly as many guess, his pet Congress will pay for it.

No they won't. Just look at Michigan, California, New Jersey, and Illinois. All have been run exclusively by Democrats for decades as their economies collapse... yet the sheep keep electing Democrats. I predict this will happen nationally as well, because now that the people have voted for HopeChange, they'll go back to ignoring everything that isn't American Idol, and when the next election comes up, they'll believe the Democrats' rhetoric that stuff's failing because the Republicans are getting in the way of all their righteous oppression.

No, they'll have no one to blame by then.

Breda,
Thank you for your efforts. God willing there is enough whisky to make it through the next four years.

mike m is right: the dems (spit) have been very successful at blaming everything that goes wrong on the GOP for years. Why should that strategy stop working now?

In the short term, all the bad things will be Bush's fault: spillover from his administration (consider that FDR was reelected TWICE even as his policies prolonged the Depression). In the long term... Well, as long as there is even a single Republican in Congress or a single conservative newspaper, website, radio program, TV show, etc, the dems will blame "Republican obstructionism!" for whatever goes wrong.

Hmm, why should we look forward to any elections?

The other side has taken the last two. They will continue to steal elections and the ones they don't steal they have enough dumb f--ks to vote for them.

Repubs will take the wrong lesson from this (like always) and will try to move even farther left to compensate.

"so this is the way democracy dies, to thunderous applause"

Actually since CA is so firmly behind the ideological concertina wire I think we can hide for a while withing the Belly of the Beast here. TehParty Apparatchiks spend all their time up in Sacramento fighting over table-scraps, siphoning Bond money for graft payments, and bending over for greasy Union Thugs, all while destroying the economy - they're too busy feathering their own nest to go out on patrol - and the Cops Union doesn't want to have to suffer either...
The whole, "blame Republican obstructionism!" has been the main Liberal macro-micro Media Cry for years here, they don't even have to change their tune.

Not to make matters any worse, but you forgot to throw in the leap year. That's 1,461 days of President Gumball.

It's OK. America has survived Pearl Harbor, 9/11 and other disasters. We'll get through this too and likely with a backlash that launches another Reagan Revolution.
