Your result for The Steampunk Style Test...
The Ragamuffin
29% Elegant, 45% Technological, 23% Historical, 36% Adventurous and 54% Playful!
You are the Ragamuffin, the embodiment of steampunk playfulness. Chances are, you approach the genre from a much more casual and lighthearted standpoint than most other fans. To you, there is always an element of play inherent in the genre, and you may very well enjoy fashion as much for the opportunity to dress up as for the style itself. You probably wear goggles as an accessory, and rarely as actual eye-protection. Your outfits are likely to incorporate a lot of brown or cream, and combine large boots, Victorian corsets or vests, aviator caps or bowler hats, and gypsy skirts or slacks, simply because you like them all.

"You are the Explorer, the embodiment of steampunk’s adventuring spirit. For you, clothing should be rugged and reliable, and just as functional as it is attractive. You probably prefer khaki or leather, and your accessories are as likely to include weapons as technological gizmos. You probably wear boots and gloves, and maybe a pith helmet. Most of what you wear is functional, and if you happen to wear goggles people had better believe that you use them. In addition to Victorian exploration gear, your outfit probably includes little knickknacks from your various travels. Above all, you are a charming blend of rugged Victorian daring and exotic curiosity."
Does anyone know where I can get a pair of men's leather calf-high boots which lace up and are built for 1) running 2) protecting a blow from a lead pipe to the shin (and possibly the knee) and 3) sports an integrated holster for my P3AT+laser? Could I rock the knee-boots and still appear hetero? Convention be damned! Full speed ahead!
Brass & ivory codpiece, anyone? Why did the codpiece ever go out of style? Did getting smacked in the 'naughty bits' somehow gain in popularity?
Are there any very talented metalworkers in the house? I'd like to have an M4 modded similarly to this awesome keyboard mod, which I'm sure most of you steampunks have seen - http://steampunkworkshop.com/keyboard.shtml. That would be the most awesome AR ever...
My first post here, but I've been lurking for about a month or so (linked from SecondCityCop).....lady, I like the way you think. Keep up the good work.

So far everyone is an explorer! And welcome, E4TW!
Here's my results. Fairly accurate I'd say.
You are Arcanist-Major Edmund Ras of the Praxian Alliance, assigned as liaison to the Legion of Peace. You are a scholar, a scientist, and a sorcerer, in a city that distrusts the first two and despises the third. Though you are kind-hearted and concerned about the betterment of others, the hostility you routinely encounter has left you jaded and sardonic. You have a sharp tongue and a very dark sense of humor, and you delight in mocking those with irrational fears and prejudices. Your outlook on life teeters between the optimistic and the resigned, and you still can’t decide if humanity is worth the trouble. Still, even if humanity is doomed to self-destruction you are willing to risk your life to give it just one more generation.
Joe
Got the explorer. Splendid! How ripping, what, what? Considering how much of my wardrobe comes from Cabela's I suppose that's not a surprise.
As for a steampunk prosthetic, that hand has nothing on what Ash made in Army of Darkness... of course, he had more advanced knowledge than did those 16th century Germans.
Mine's pretty accurate, especially considering my first thought upon seeing that prosthetic hand was, "Hmm... All it needs is a few servos.."
You are the Gadgeteer, the embodiment of steampunk technology. Ironically, many of the things that most define your style are probably too large to easily carry about, but given the opportunity you would prefer to be seen surrounded by boiler engines, gear-driven calculators, and incredible automata. Of all the steampunk fashion styles, you place the greatest emphasis on technological accessories, and you are the most likely to create elaborate gadgets that are as much a part of your outfit as your clothes. You probably have goggles, but unlike most people you consider them to be for more than decoration. Whereas most people might look odd carrying a satchel of tools around, for you they may well be essential. Above all, you remind everyone that what sets the genre apart from Victoriana is simply the level of technology.
Escuse me, Madam, are you talking to ME?
The Citizen
18% Elegant, 52% Technological, 60% Historical, 40% Adventurous and 26% Playful!
The Citizen
You are the Citizen, the embodiment of steampunk’s everyday side. You realize that there is far more to a rich, living environment than adventurers and lunatic engineers. For every gentleman-scientist or airship fleet admiral there are a dozen or more “ordinary people” who prevent the genre from devolving into a mass of cardboard caricatures, and you take pride in exploring the great diversity of a steampunk world’s population. Your clothing could easily come from any social group or society, and you are equally liable to dress upper, middle, or working class. However, the unifying feature to your fashion sense is that it does not get carried away with “looking steampunk,” instead creating a person who could have just stepped out of the crowd in a novel. Some people may claim that your style is too close to historical accuracy to be steampunk, but fortunately you know better.

I actually own a pith helmet and a Webley auto for protection from the fuzzy-wuzzies. Guess what result I got?
"You probably wear goggles as an accessory, and rarely as actual eye-protection."
Well, protection really. Ear protection, too. ;-)
Mrs. Borepatch was the Aristocrat, but I was just a boring old citizen. Pretty accurate, actually.
I want thzt keyboard.
I resist the idea of building Breda an iron leg as I'd probably be the first to get my ass kicked with it.... She'd loan it to Tam!
My instincts go with ivory, (fake of course) and brass. Spring loaded and India rubber accessories.
I have experience, I've costumed Borg and Zombies.
A steampunk M4? Wouldn't that be in .45-70 or .505 Gibbs?
I got a bit of .505 Gibbs from a friend. I decided to make an insert barrel for my 26.5mm flare gun.
Easy prototyping system for lazy experimenters.
I'm surprised no one has photoshopped Breda's face onto that Ragamuffin picture.
Gadgeteer, to my surprise. I tend to go more for the elegant look (work) or explorer (work or play).

ragamuffin
1344, from M.E. raggi "ragged" + fanciful ending (or else second element is M.Du. muffe "mitten"). Ragged was used of the devil from c.1300 in ref. to "shaggy" appearance. Used by Langland as the name of a demon (cf. O.Fr. Ragamoffyn, name of a demon in a mystery play); sense of "dirty, disreputable boy" is from 1581."
Demon!
I'll send you your request in Images of the Week.
Hey! I am so not a demon!
Steampunk M4, John B? While the .45-70 Government and 505 Gibbs are fine examples of the armorer's craft, only 577/450 Martini-Henry will truly serve, my good man. :-)
Explorer, too.
Hey, I'll take a whack at that "Design-a-leg" contest you're having. Where are the contestants lining up?
