gunblogger girl gear

On last night's Gun Nuts Radio, we talked about all the accessories and gadgets gunny types like to carry around with them. (and if you missed it, my well-armed and exceedingly dapper co-host Caleb has all the downloading details)

So I thought that perhaps you all (y'all?) would like to see my gear.

Wifi is everywhere and a girl never knows when she's going to need to blog, right? So after I got my adorable little Eee netbook, I decided I needed a bag a bit larger than my usual purse. I considered getting a bag similar to Alan's Eee-worthy man purse but opted for something a little less tactical. I found a simple messenger bag with plenty of pockets.

And you know what happens when you have plenty of pockets, right? You need to fill them with stuff.

Along with the holstered Bersa on my belt, I also carry a LED penlight, a small Gerber paraframe, a larger Gerber paraframe (in my pocket), a Swisscard and a spare magazine...and that's only the tactical gunny gear.

Gunblogger gear requires the Eee PC, a small notebook, a fine point Sharpie marker, a disposable fountain pen (black ink only), and a mini bulldog clip just because it's cute and you never know when you might need to clip something. I also decorated my bag with the all important Unorganized Militia Propaganda Corps patch (stickers and pins are also available - get yours today!) and a Breda logo badge that a very thoughtful and anonymous blogreader sent me. (Thank you so much!!)

The small flowered bag holds all of my girly stuff like bandaids, hairclips, a Tide-to-go pen and Dr. Pepper lipbalm, a gunchick essential to help keep your lips soft and subtly tinted during those long days at the range.

I used to carry only my wallet, my keys and a couple of lipglosses, max. Now suddenly I'm a pack mule.

Dr. Pepper lip balm. My kinda girl.

Pity you live in the Midwest, where the Dr. Pepper quality is sub-par. Another reason to move to Texas!

I live in Maryland where a knife like you carry is a "concealed weapon." Keep up the good work.

What, no dice?

Something to consider adding to the pack.

A lighter.

Being a kaveman, yes I'm biased about having fire on demand where ever I go, but it is a good thing to have on hand.

+1000 on the lighter recommendation.

Also, if you buy a cheapo lighter and take it apart you can make the flame 10 times larger than normal.

Breda Breda Breda. Only 3 knives?! Only 3?!?! You need to get yourself a bigger Swiss Army knife. A regulation Buck Hunter or Ranger. Maybe a small fixed blade (there are some really great neck knives out there). Upgrade to a small penknife (Kershaw's are good).

Sorry. Knife collector for over a quarter century (oh me poor long suffering wife).

I like the slide holster, my preference. And I DO like the knives. Just think you should add to them.

So many guns. So many Zippos. So many knives. So little time. . .

I like having a good, powerful flashlight (just ordered a fenix TK0) and a multi-tool. also a small screwdriver pen.

Nice setup! Those Pilot Varsity pens are great.

I have to say I really don't like the "open frame" style knives, though. I picked one up one time (someone had left it on one of the ambulances) and realized I could feel the edge of the blade where my finger had gotten into one of the cutouts. I only just managed to avoid getting cut, and it turned me off of those completely.

Now if they made one that had the cutouts to reduce weight, but still covered the edge, I would be interested.

Some thoughts:

- buck makes some nice multi-tools. I have one of these and like it very much:

(oh, and there is a version with a flashlight)

- These folks have some skins to make the Eee purty:
