Caleb and I want to give you what you want. Tell us.

How about some attention to the red-headed bastard stepchild of gun rights, NFA items? We won on Heller, we just got incorporation, but nobody ever brings up the guns that already have an unconstitutional registry, that have a market so artificially inflated by the closing of that registry that the only other product with similar profit margins to full auto guns is illegal drugs, the utterly arbitrary length for "Now this barrel is too short and you are extra dangerous give us money," or the onerous and stupid hoops to jump through in order to own and use what amounts to mechanical hearing protection.

The last time I brought it up in a "gun rights, yay!" discussion, the conversation went from amicable to fairly heated and not exactly what I'd call friendly to my position faster than you can empty an uzi magazine.

"Everything but the gun"

What do you do when you run out of bullets? While hopefully this wouldn't happen, it could, and would seriously ruin your day. For example:

(NSFW)

It took 3 officers and over 100 rounds of 9mm, .40, and .233 to take down one suspect with .45, and the officers still had to fight the man to get him handcuffed. He later died. There are pictures that will make you go, "I know I never want to get shot, but..yeeeeeeeah, no, I really REALLY never want to get shot." The article makes a nice case for .223 and dispells rumors about balistics and the facts regarding the incident are something everyone who carries should read...but I digress.

So, I don't know about you, but I don't carry over 100 rounds, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get very far if I walked around carrying my AR15. So what happens if you run out of ammo and are still in danger, if the other guy is still shooting at you or attacking you? Clearly, training is important for us all, so that we send bullets to the baddy which hit him in the eye or the heart, but what about when this fails.

I know other people out there have had some training in how to disarm a bad guy, krav maga, secondary weapons like knives or a whatever is handy such as a pen (I learned how to break a baddy's jaw with my graphing calculator), how to use an empty gun to inflict damage, and how not to get shot if the bad guy still has his.

Frankly, I have a very strong 'run like hell' instinct, but I know that I might need to further disable my attacker if I run out of bullets, or something else goes wrong, like he breaks BOTH my hands, in order to assure my safety.

Thi is an easy and obvious answer: Tuesday should be a caller-driven show called "My Favorite Firearm", with you and Caleb working through the calls quickly so new folks can get over their call-in drama and we can hear some gun stories.

However, a FURTHER rant about Gun Nuts radio and the many ways we can improve it quickly and cheaply will be up at my site shortly.

Appleseed. This past week end was the anniversary of Paul Revere's ride. Appleseed project had a spectacular event across the country with a turn out of 2,000 or so actual shooters. Put a good word in for them.

We did an Appleseed show once already. It was certainly interesting.
