judge not...

I suppose I need to chime in about Sonia Sotomayor, Obama's pick for the Supreme Court. Turns out she's a typical liberal, obsessed with meaningless identity politics and Leftist ideology - for example, she makes racist statements (but don't worry it's ok - they're about white people) and thinks that individual ownership of guns is illegal (and always has been). Plus it seems she has the Socialist tendencies required to be part of the Obama administration. None of this surprises me - but then again, what do I know? I'm just a white person, bitterly clinging to my guns, without any of that Latina "richness of experience."

Naturally, she is being celebrated as the first Hispanic nominated for the Supreme Court. If confirmed, she's be the third woman Justice. So win-win! Brown skin and a vagina! (Never mind that 60% of her rulings get overturned.)

Somehow I don't remember the same type of reaction for Condoleezza Rice when she became the first African-American woman who served as Secretary of State. I don't remember anyone being warned to be careful in criticising her...

(imagine the outrage if this comic was about Michelle Obama)
Oh, that's right...
you're only a real woman or a real minority if you're a liberal.

I know you aren't bitterly clinging to your guns, you are joyfully slinging lead down range and inviting the world to come and shoot with you. Makes me smile.

Perhaps you should consider some sources that aren't so obviously partisan. I expect more out of a research scientist, which you've claimed several times you are (and which I would sure hope you are if you happen to do research in a library for a living).

You're amazing laughable. For all the fodder you push about liberals, how mindless they must be, you're no better than they are. Equal footing of your enemy- how shameful of you!

anon - this is my blog, not my job at the library...I don't owe anyone bipartisan fairness here.

Also, you call me laughable and yet don't have the balls to post your name while you insult me?

Never mind the anonymice... who can't even provide links for counterarguments. So far I don't see Sotomayor as worse than anyone else That Man would nominate, and maybe slightly better on abortion. Plus (tacky as it may be to say) she has the plus of a chronic medical condition, which may limit how long she can do damage.

Anon - Breda's choice of sources doesn't change what Sotomayor actually said nor does it change her total lack of respect for the
2nd Amendment.

If we flipped Sotomayors statement and attributed it to a white, male judge the media would be attacking him as a racist, sexist bigot. They would destroy his political career.

Racism is racism, it doesn't change based on the race of the person making the statements.

I wonder if she's paid her taxes.
Seems you can't be nominated to a job in the current administration if you aren't a tax cheat.

Can anyone read this and not giggle?

Anon: You'd better get back to your homework. Mom wants to use her computer.

Being a Liberal actually means belonging to a very exclusive identity-club.

The nominee so far just seems like another racist, statist hack intent on forging our chains a little stronger.

Her understanding of the 14th Amendment is also interesting. In short, she seems to feel that it, and the rest of the Constitution, ONLY allies to the federal government - not the states. While the idea that the Bill of Rights only applies to the Federal level is an old interpretation that goes back to Chief Justice John Marshall (Barron vs. Baltimore), limiting the Constitution to the Federal level only is new. There's a lot of interesting possibilities there, if one knew how to work it.
