Turn off your TV. Do it now.

On last night's Gun Nuts Radio, we discussed open carry at Tea Party protests, whether it hurts or helps our cause and the media's reaction to law-abiding people carrying firearms. It was a really great show and we had some quality commentary from callers. (& if you listen very carefully, you might even hear that soft-spoken guy from SayUncle)

I spoke briefly about seeing the initial CNN report on the African-American man carrying an AR-15 on his back at a protest and how odd the coverage seemed to me. Watch...

Hmm...after showing an African-American man carrying a rifle, they immediately try to take the focus off of him, suggesting that a white man was carrying an AR too. And notice, too, that they imply that the pro-Obama crowd was peaceful and the anti-Obama crowd was not, even though every single reported instance of violence at a protest has been instigated by those supporting Obamacare. Conveniently for them, there are no photos of this angry, shouting AR-toting white man so, really, they can say whatever they like.

It seems to me that CNN made racist assumptions about this African-American man. They made the story appear as if this man was there quietly and peacefully supporting Obamacare and brought his rifle because he felt threatened by the crazy whackos on the other side of the debate. Naturally, if he's black, he just couldn't possibly be anything other than a liberal, right? The man was later revealed to be a pro-2nd Amendment libertarian who thinks all taxation is theft. I'm willing to wager he's not exactly a fan of socialized health care.

You might think. "A national news network wouldn't possibly lie or distort the facts so blatantly, would they? They wouldn't spin a story like that, right?"

Oh, no? Think again.

"..national news network..." sounds like a contradiction in terms, particularly in this day.

Wow. Could they be any more blatant about how much they want to go down on Obambi?

I like how they go on about how this wouldn't be important if it was Bush, or Clinton, or Bush, Sr. - it's President OBAMA, so it's important that this is happening.

When I was studying journalism, my classroom environment was tempered by a deep immersion in the blogosphere. The back-and-forth of blogs, coupled with the skills of journalism, taught me how to think, form an argument and accept facts that I find unpleasant. It also taught me how to accept someone who holds an opposing viewpoint, and how not to assume someone's viewpoint based on factors beyond their control.

Ninety-nine percent of that industry missed those lessons.

I'd be willing to bet my next paycheck that the guy that the CNN correspondent saw was the same guy.

You're telling me that there was another, white guy, anti-obama and very vocal, that no one with a camera took a picture of?

That none of the news crews got a video of him?

BS.

I saw another video of the black guy with a bullhorn, presumably being vocal and attracting attention.

I don't believe it. Either the CNN reporter allowed his bigoted stereotypes to color what he THOUGHT he was seeing, he was so fixated on the firearm that he never really looked at the guy carrying it, or he's just flat out lying to advance the narrative...

My guess would be a combination of one and two.

At any rate, I flat out am not buying the proposition that there was another, white guy, carrying an AR at that protest, who escaped the attention of absolutely everyone except this one CNN reporter.

Yeah, no way in hell there was another guy, a white guy, carrying an AR-15 whom no one managed to get a picture or video of.

But hey, this is the MSM. When it comes to guns lying is what they do.

Where would the anti-gunners be today without the media pushing their message for them?

These kinds of newspeople are holding the American Dream, human liberty and the hope of the future down. How is human progress going to be made when folks like this choose to keep their minds in chains?
We can't go forward without having to wire around this kind of blindness, hate and prejudice.

When NBC blew up the Chevy pickups years ago with Estes rocket motors to get their "story", I knew it was the end of the line for the MSM.

I think that the MSM just could not figure out why a black man was protesting against Obama - holstering a Glock AND shouldering an AR-15 "assault" rifle in plain sight of everyone. They just could not figure out how to spin it.

If this guy was white, they could spin it that he was just a "wacko" nut job neo-con, and publicly ridicule him.

They were just so astounded, they could not think straight.

For me, thgis was just priceless!

At least CNN had the decency to actually show the black guy... MSNBC edited the video so his skin color didnt show, then ranted about dangerous white racist gun owners...
