in which I make my escape

It's been an interesting week and a half...and by interesting I mean "draining." I actually had to look at a calendar just now to figure out when my mom broke her arm and was surprised to find that it was only 10 days ago. (only 46 more to go!) In that time, I've been a nurse, a hairdresser, a manicurist, a bath attendant, a cook, a gofer, a...well, you get the point. I'm happy to be able to take care of my family but wow - I've been feeling a bit frayed at the edges, you know? (& blogging has been far down on my list of priorities. I'm sorry for that.)

Oh, and then Mike got the flu. Ever sleep in a bed with a man Mike's size when he has the chills and his whole body is shivering? It feels just like those old "magic finger" beds, without having to insert a dime every 2 minutes. Then he steals my blanket so it's like an authentic "crappy motel with the A/C stuck on full tilt" experience. (Plus cats.)

Suspecting that everyone would survive a day and a half without me, I hit the road. A few hours later I was at the Michigan Renaissance Faire where they had arts & crafts, scotch eggs, silly performers, a joust and corsets for me to try on. The friend I went with tried on a kilt for me last year (and supplied photos as proof) so I figured it was only fair. All this merriment was followed by sushi, beer, a movie and a bubble bath - a perfect one day vacation.

(I'm happy to report Mom and Mike are much improved - and so am I.)

Good for you :) You can't take care of others if you're not taking care of yourself too.

Yay for you! I used to work the MI Faire as a musician, back in the '80s.

Sure, now, and a fetching lass ye are, too.

Or, as the WV puts it: fettingi.

I think WV spelled it wrong.

Breda, the real question is how were you packing with the corset on?
