boundaries

Whether it's someone with a differing worldview making anonymous ad hominem attacks or just some douchebag who lives in his mother's basement picking fights to escape the boredom of his pathetic life, it seems every blog eventually gets a troll - and this blog is no exception.

Unfortunately for those tiresome creatures intent on spoiling everyone else's enjoyment, I own this little place on the worldwide web. I own every single word... even in the comments section. I have the ability to turn comments off completely and have not hesitated to delete them when necessary. I don't owe anyone a forum.

So welcome to The Breda Fallacy, where your 2nd Amendment rights are supported but your 1st Amendment rights aren't guaranteed.

I thought you'd already kicked MikeB to the curb...

Good for you! Arguing a differing opinion is one thing. Being a Jackass is another.

And this is as it should be. My right to free speech ends at your property line.

I made that call a long time ago. I don't run a blog just to give random asshats a free soapbox from which they can insult or harass me.

I still have my 1st Amendment rights on this blog. I can sit in my living room and say "That chick is whacked" (which I don't, since "whacked" isn't a word I often throw into sentences) and no one from the gov't is going to bust down my door and arrest me.

Think of turning off Troll Capabilities as having a bunch of guests at a dinner party, and one decides to come up to you and start saying nasty things- he's got the right to say them, but that doesn't mean you have to let him stay in YOUR house. This is YOUR blog, and you own the content of it, it's your personal property.

Rock on, Breda. Rock on.

Good for you! Someday, I hope to have enough readers that I will attract a troll.

So is this MikeB or some new moron?

I've not had a troll but I do have a blog spammer. He posts the identical comment on a number of blogs and asking for reciprocal links. I didn't know he was a spammer until he made the same identical comment on another post.

If you go to his blog, all he posts is links---nothing else, no additional comments or text to his post.

Guess he's just another of those whose sole purpose is to collect "friends."

Looks like ya got another one ... each of those periods in that asian's post is a link to a cam-whore site.

Yeah, he hit my old blogger site, too. I may not be putting new posts there anymore, but I still get notified of any comments made there. Spam like that gets deleted ASAP.

If I promise to be nice will you stop deleting my comments.

Sorry....

Actually, censoring on a private forum isn't a disruption of 1st Amend. rights. The 1st Amend. applies to teh government, not private property.

Go ahead and squash trolls with a light heart and free conscience.

Tanksoldier took the words right out of my pedantic mouth! The Bill of Rights lists what government cannot do. We, the unwashed people, can still do what we wish with regard to many of those rights.

Surprising to many, also, is that it is only in court that you get presumption of innocence. I can recognize guilt all by myself and without necessity of conviction by a jury of peers.

Ain't life grand? ... so far, at least!

Whack-a-troll - not as much fun as a range trip, but still a necessary skill!

W/V - "hidom" - what you do with troll posts.

Right on!!

I never had a troll, but I had a cut-n-paste Truther this one time. That only lasted about two days.

As the song said.

"The first amendment protects you from the government, not from me."

Good show Breda.

Kristophr said...

I never deleted mine ... I just edited them for ... clarity. That's it, clarity.

After enough post clarification, they would go away.

Too bad blogger won't support that.

i've got a chinese spammer who regularly posts to a dozen or so of my old posts a month or so after i turn off comment moderation! Annoying!!!!!!!!!!

Your blog, your rules ....

I had a particularly onerous anti-gun troll trying to "out" me recently, both on my blog and elsewhere.

For the 1st time in ~ 2.5 years I had to delete a non-spam comment.

Good for you. Your blog, your rules.

Oh, and I get the stupid chinese spam from time to time too.
