snakebite

Weer'd Beard has an excellent review of the Cobra firearms we handled at the NRA Annual Meeting.

I wasn't impressed.

(& what irritated me perhaps more than the crap triggers, the frighteningly bad engineering, and the cheesy pastel chrome finishes is that Cobra actively markets these guns for women. Sure, your little gun may be shiny, pink, and really affordable but it will hurt your hand when you try to shoot it. And if you get one of those cute little derringers? Expect to have to use two hands to use it. Not exactly the best way to encourage new female shooters.)

Weer'd and I looked at the ugly ass colored Cobra's. We couldn't even find the caliber marked anywhere on the gun. (not even on the barrel)

So not only do they make the trigger hurt so bad you'll never want to shoot it, they don't mark the gun with the caliber it's chambered for.

It's almost as if they want you to buy it and never use it.

They're not even that affordable. I've bought Sigs for cheaper.

Yeah those derringers you'd be better off with a well-shaped rock. like 60% of the time I was fondling them I cocked the hammer to the half-cocked notch (and its a gritty and heavy cocking stroke) the full-cock is a mile away from the damn barrels, and once you get the gun ready to fire the single-action trigger pull is around, 10#.

Couple that with a lousy grip, vestigial sights, crappy balance, and only two shots, and some bizarre juggling act for a reload, I don't imagine the rounds will go where they're needed when they're needed.

Yeah these are NOT guns for rookie shooters...and honestly I don't know WHAT these are guns for.

People who can't get a decent used Glock, or fund a Kel-tec?

I'm assuming you're showing an OWIE on your finger. I'd think they would bring their best stuff to the convention, not their worst. What's that? That was their best?

GAG! FAIL!

Yeah PPPP, I don't think they HAVE an A-Game to bring.

That being said the consensus I heard from the vendors was the guns on display were intentionally representative, in that all they did was remove the firing pin per convention regulations.

If anything triggers might be BETTER given that they have been dry-fired thousands of times by countless tire-kickers.

Okay, now I read Weerd Beard's post, where he gives a close up of Breda's finger.

Those guys should pack up and go back to the CA Ring of Fire where they found the plans for those pieces of junk.

PPPP - The picture doesn't do it justice either. That mark looked worse in person.

I can't imagine what your finger would feel like after putting a box of ammo through it.

I have a ring of fire gun, a Davis 380. Only because it was given to me by a relative. I have fired perhaps 15 rounds through it - 3 magazines. Maybe. Probably less.

I do remember one particular aspect of the gun was that at approximately five yards, with very careful aiming and consistent control, I kept five rounds within approximately two inches left to right, and eighteen inches top to bottom. So, if I were to actually have to carry it for self-defence, and assuming I had time to rack the slide (never ever ever ever trust the safety on one of those things), a COM POA on a fairly close bad guy should yield a hit somewhere between nostrils and navel. Hopefully.

Excellent points Breda- They are last ditch belly guns... and it's a question of who will hurt more, you or them. $$=Quality, those, not so much...

I don't recognize the person behind you there, but I like the shirt.

The solution: Start every woman on a Sig 239.

I keed, I keed. I'd start 'em on the Mosquito -- same feel, small kick.

The first time I tried to pull the trigger on my dad's Cobra I thought the safety was still on.

Lissa - I still think the .22 version of the Bersa Thunder 380 is an ideal 1st gun.

I just wish they weren't so hard to find. If they were widely avaliable and Bersa/Firestorm marketed better they'd sell like hotcakes.

I've been looking for a new one so I can give mine to my mom, but they're just not easy to get a hold of.
