update2

He showed up at court this morning (coward knew I wouldn't be there, probably) and was sentenced to 60 days house arrest, plus $764.00 in fines and court costs. Not too bad, considering he destroyed another person's property and seriously injured another human being in the process, all while breaking the law anyway.

So there you have it...justice, American-style.

I'm all out of words today. I might go paint. Or scream. Or cry. Or something.

It's called a 'justice' system, but really; it's a 'legal' system.

It is at best a first order approximation of justice.

The woman who crippled me got a $70 fine and two points...

Sounds like a little recoil therapy might be in order.

Just make sure you do it at the range....

Un fucking believable.

No wonder the criminals don't worry about getting caught.

Holy, mother of... I mean, I... What the...

It's times like this when I wonder why so many people even bother to follow the laws when the punishment -- if even caught and convicted -- is so trivial. Moral high-ground? Ethics?

Sixty days of house arrest? That's a bit like telling somebody, "Hey, go take a vacation for two months."

Well, there's always civil court.

A 1911 rental and a few boxes of .45ACP is what you need.

I'm sad to hear he got a slap on the wrist. I hope karma bites him in the ass.

Skinning the culprit alive is my first impulse. or just strapping him down and handing my favorite librarian a Louisville slugger.

Just walking around him for 30 minutes, randomly twirling the bat, would maybe make him a better person.

Recoil therapy is called for.

You can draw stick figures with name-labels and not get kicked out of the range.

Cest la vie, just be glad youre in one piece I guess. May I suggest you epoxy shut his doors and windows, you know...just to help him serve his sentence. :)

Rustmeister nailed it, I think.

I'm really sorry to hear this, Breda. Dude's basically grounded for two months and has to pay the .gov a sub-thousand-dollar fine.

I really feel bad for you. I really do.

Did your insurance cover your losses at all? Assuming he had none, of course. If so, they'll go after him. At least, they should.

We bought a Toyota Camry several years ago from a very nice older couple. He was retired OSP. They replaced it with a brand new version. Within just a few months, some 16-18 year old kid from CA came flying over a hill (residential) and T-boned them. Killed him outright. She lingered in the hospital for a couple of months before dying. Their 10-year old grandson in the back seat was injured as well, but recovered.

The California kid's initial reaction? MY CAR! DAMN! MY CAR'S WRECKED! Absolutely no concern as to what he had just done.

PPPP said...

Oh, one other aspect. The kid blew through a red light in order to T-bone them.

That fucking SUCKS!

I can't imagine what it might be like to be on house arrest after somebody stuffed a few days of cat excrement through your mail slot at 4am.

Did I say that out loud, or just think it?

Yep. Your keyboard keys were moving.

Never mind the baseball bat. Walk around him for a few minutes with a fully charged cordless drill and a 5/8ths inch bit.

The scene from the Bond movie (one of the Daniel Craig ones) where he is strapped to the chair and getting pummelled in a very personal manner comes to mind.

A man can dream, can't he? Law vs. justice indeed.

Whatever you do, don't pour liquified sardines down those vents between his windshield and the hood because that is where the fresh air for the A/C & heater comes from and you will never get the smell out.

Don't you wish that the high road is loaded with loose boulders so you can kick them down onto the idiot down below?

Breda,

Can't you file a lien against him for what he ows you not covered by your insurace AND for the increased cost of your insurance.

If rich daddy is covering him, he may cover him for a lein, too!

Get them any way you can, till you finally get the right to draw a proper bead on him and drop the hammer!

I can't believe he's not getting any prison time. It's infuriating that you've had to deal with all this and you don't even get the satisfaction of anything resembling justice. He isn't worth the energy it would take to loathe him, but it's tempting. ::Hugs::

Sue him. Put him out of his house and home, that'll learn 'em.
