sometimes a girl with a gun...

...is just a girl with a gun.

But it seems that sociology professor Jerry Lembcke disagrees. While guest blogging at the WaPo about a recent Rolling Stone issue, Jerry reveals the extent of his own personal issues by saying things like "Girls with guns, after all, have deeply Freudian implications."

Let's forget for the moment that the items attached to Lady Gaga's brassiere are not actually guns at all but are simply meaningless props - a worn out, usually liberal, trope of using gun or gun-shaped design elements in a pathetic attempt to appear edgy or risqué. (also? I'm not quite sure what all Gaga is trying to tell us here, other than she is a ridiculous poseur with questionable fashion sense and quite possibly the most photoshopped ass in history of magazine covers.)

Anyway, it seems in Professor Jerry's world, a woman with a gun is either a playful little sex kitten suggestively fondling her man's, ahem..."pistol" or a frustrated creature wishing that she could somehow have a "pistol" of her very own - either way, we are symbols. We cannot possibly be real. He even goes so far as to call women with guns "fantasies, women imagined to have the male capacity to project power, warrior women conjured out of men’s anxieties..."

(Me thinks the gentleman doth project too much.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Freud largely disproved?

Not that that has ever stopped anyone from quoting him...

Maybe he just wants to keep women "in their place" and the empowerment that goes along with gun ownership and carry doesn't fit with that.

What an ass.

Bluesun,

I got my degree in psychology and yes, Freud has been disproved completely. The only actual contribution to the field of psychology he had to offer was the existence of the unconscious. He made everything else up.

If you hear somebody mention Freud in an attempt to convince you of anything related to psychology, it should raise red flags. He is still popular in some sociology circles, where they still cling to postmodern ideas that there is no objective truth, etc. etc. Mental masturbation and nothing else.

Ummm how about "LOOK AT MY TITS!!! BUY MY MUSIC!"

No need to look too much deeper with her. And frankly I can't fault her.

Methinks the lady doth use the term "gentleman" too loosely.

I find it rather ironic when people quote Freud to try and discredit gun owners, or make fun of them, but didn't Freud say something else about people who didn't like guns.....

In the bigger scheme of things it doesn't matter because the only thing people will remember about that issue was that McCrystal article was in it.

It frustrated Gaga so much that she went into overload and went into that baseball club locker room in NY half drunk to get more publicity.

Bread and circuses people, bread and circuses.......

So, Breda. Tell us all about your pen!s envy.

*sits and waits*

*drums fingers*

Freud's biggest failing was in defining women using man's parts. Professor Dumbcke needs to evolve.

The rumour about lady Gaga is that she is transgendered or has ambiguous genitalia.

I think the "guns" are her way of making a joke at the rumours of her actually having a penis.

There is so much good music in the world, why listen to that?

Never mind the rightfully thrashed BS writing which goes with it.

Well, FWIW, I think the guy has more of a point than you think. He's not talking about actual women with actual guns. (Or if he is, it's not there in the quote.)

He's talking about pictures like this one. A largely-fake woman, with entirely-fake guns. (Both of which Our Hostess actually pointed out.) She _is_ a symbol. She might as well be a cartoon.

What, after all, would the folks at Rolling Stone know about women like the one who runs this blog, or the ones who frequent it?

Do I think that's his perspective? Probably not. But while he might be and probably is deluded about what reality is, he's not off-base in calling this a "fantasy", and a pretty stupid one at that.

As soon as you saw the words " Sociology Professor", you should have said "Crap, another useless piece of propaganda by a parasite feeding off the tax payers through the distribution of wealth to the Commies via Federal Grants by the "Department of Reeducation", and moved on to looking for new and exciting Bacon recipes.

ahem Mark: (in my best Prof. Viking voice) Freud did much more than you give him credit for. He said a whole bunch of rediculous things that made subsequent researchers go "huh?", thus spurring them on to discover all sorts of things that were, in and of themselves, mostly rediculous. Out of this comes the (still mostly rediculous) understanding of the human mind that we currently have today. One day, on the shoulders of great (perverted) men like Freud, we may aspire to have insights into the human mind that are merely silly, and no longer mostly rediculous.

To demonstrate this, I shall now climb back under my desk, suck my thumb, and try not to hump my teddy bear right here in my office cubicle.

thank you

Okay, the guy hates manly men and is completely wack when it comes to women. So who does he like? I mean, when you're all ate up with misandry and misogyny, that kinda narrows things down, no?

Yesterday, while checking out at the range, there was a lovely lady at the next spot at the counter asking questions about and deciding to rent and try out a S&W M&P and a H&K so she could decide which to buy.

If this clown had been there, he'd probably have wet his pants or run away to hide.
