so srs schtick

We're not that mean. We just really want the books back, you know.

Pearls Before Swine

People say to themselves, "PUH-lease. It's not like I'm going to get arrested for overdue books."

Oh, yeah?

random thought:

Yesterday, I received quite a few emails from online friends telling me about this comic and so many of them said that it made them think of me, the librarian.

And whenever something gun-related pops up in the news (like the recent AZ shooting), everyone at the library says it makes them think of me, the gun owner.

So I am known for being a gunnie librarian, neither of which I could have predicted a decade ago. I was so sure I was going to be a sculptor.

How did life surprise you along the way?

Personally I think people have better lives when there are surprises.

What I do for a living didn't exist ten years ago.

I never in a billion years thought I would be a writer of any stripe...

Ten years ago I was working on being an engineer. I never dreamed I'd be married to a south african vet, a pilot, and own an antique plane I love turning wrenches on... life's a crazy adventure, and each year brings more surprises yet.

I'm glad to know you as an online friend, and I shall always try to return my books on time!

I wrote my first program in 1968. Although I initially went to school for an EE degree I've been working with computer software in one form or another ever since. Guess I found my niche early. :)

hehehe- Glad I didn't send that email, obviously others did... Life IS a journey Breda, what we do with it and it's little sidetracks are up to us. Obviously, you are successful, married to a nice guy, and have quite a following in blogsphere... Who knows, maybe your 'next' sidetrack will take you back to sculpting!

In the words of one of the stickers on my motorcycle helmet:

"If I'd known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself."

You really should have had a character version of you on the Firefly series :) Just ad an eye patch and you would have been the most bad arse librarian in the Rim...

Oddly enough, I get the gunnie librarian thing too. I'm expecting much commentary when we head back to school this week.

Never had a direction until a few years ago, now I'm married and my wife is pregnant with our first child.

Yeah, it's an adventure all right :D

If you'd told me 10 years ago I'd be a "gunnie" today I wouldn't have had a clue what you were talking about. Of course back then I was 15.

I have a confession to make. as a kid I was one of the kids you hated. You know, the one who NEVER brought his books back on time.

Biggest surprise? Just how many ups & downs there are in life once you're not a kid anymore.

Of course I'm 25 and can't even start to pretend I"ve got things figured out, so I'm really just talking out of my ass here.

My mom found a book in my bedroom 'The Saracen Blade' [sp] that had been there while I was overseas for four years. She returned it with her checkbook ready to cover my ass and the lady at the desk said' " Did he read it and learn anything?"
My mom said "Yes, he inlisted last week" At $.05 a day, voided, that helped my mom a lot.
They were sewing buds for years after that. Both gone now, but I spoke at both of their services.

I figured if I were polite and didn't make waves, I wouldn't be bothered and I'd get more loving attention from the opposite sex. Just got me walked upon until I wised up.

If I had it to do over again, I'd have skipped college and built bookshelves.

10 years ago? Wow. I was...well, I was one of the people that your co-workers probably complained about (I always return library books...but I usually returned them late). I'd just moved to Ohio with my new business partner to save money. And while I was libertarian-leaning in theory, I would never have thought of actually buying and shooting a gun.

Now? Well...plenty of guns on hand. And if the guy who was my new business partner 10 years ago ever shows his face where I live now, at least one of them will be used. :) (Also, the whole Ohio thing didn't work out so well, plus I'm no longer single and broke.)
