Brainjam

I'm ruminating.

But while we're all waiting for the breda blog content to magically appear, could someone please explain to me this little gem from The One?
"What I hear you saying is that the notion that us saying to people that don't have health insurance, don't make me pay for your health insurance, if you get sick, you have a responsibility to make sure you have coverage. There's nothing socialist about that. That's saying to Americans, we're going each of us be responsible for our own health care."
I know it's Monday and all, but...I've had coffee, read it about 5 times and I still can't make sense of it. Have we always been at war with Eastasia?

We watched that video last night. Wife and I looked at each other and said "huh?" Maybe he had already started hitting that White House home brew.

You mean- like the vast majority of Americans were doing BEFORE you imposed ObamaKare on us?

Yeah... I've had my morning shot of caffeine... but that doesn't make any sense to me either.

The One's Teleprompter must've been broken.

It's not just you, I'm completely confuddled by his statement as well.

Of course we might actually be able to be responsible for our own healthcare if not for two massive intermediaries between patient and doctor (I.E. government and insurance companies)

Clearly, you have not trained yourself well in the art of Demo-think, erm, doublethink.

we're = just the responsible taxpaying citzens

our own = every human, including those too irresponsible to prioritize their spending for items that they need, not want

Now, if you'll excuse me, I must go particpate in my Physical Jerks. (Still can't touch my toes without bending my knees, though, but the telescreen hasn't caught that yet.)

That first sentence really needs to be reworded...

He's always been incoherent without a teleprompter. With one, we get coherent vacuousness.

Well, remember, in Barry's Mind War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery and 2+5 DO make 5.

Socialism, double-plus good!

He'd like it not to be "socialist" when the government forces you to do something instead of just doing it for you. (I. e. "you must have health insurance" vs. "here, have some health insurance")

I don't think he realizes that the difference between "you need to spend your money on x" and "I'm going to spend your money on x" isn't very significant. Also, I don't think he's going to like the adjective which leaps to my mind after socialist, but that's gets us to Godwin ...

In addition to working as a contractor in health care, I buy my own health insurance. I get an additional $5 per hour to buy insurance. That buys me about $100 per month into my health savings account, and $5000 deductible insurance for me and my family. That means that if I get hit by a car, I'm only out of pocket $5000 plus lost time. When I get a bill, because I have insurance, it costs me several hundred dollars for a half hour doctors visit. If I didn't have any insurance, I'd get the write off rate of about seventy five dollars. That means I'm subsidizing the freeloaders. It's already a socialist system. You just don't know it.

The middle-class pays the bil since the wealthy have gilden insurance pkans-expensive, but profitable in their own. The poor pay, well..., nothing. The tax and costvof insurance for the rest of us picks up the bill :€

Those dorks have been chipping away at our system since at least the sixties, pushing it toward socialism, trying to break it badly enough that single payer is the only solution. It's held up remarkably well so far, despite all that.

Don't forget this man is the smartest to ever be POTUS. He is much smarterer than dumb GW. This quote is just too sophisticated for you dumb wingnuts to understand.

"When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less."

"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."

"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master— that's all."
