how it starts...

A local reporter takes a CCW class...
...I wasn't packing heat, but I was weighed down by a bellyful of well-worn biases about the kind of person who wants to strut around armed.
Considering her previous experience with guns, I'm not surprised.

fair warning: the CCW article sometimes sounds just as ignorant as you might expect and also uses some of those scary anti-gun buzz words but it's an initial, honest step for a woman who admits both her bias and her fear...so good on her. In fact, this article probably sounds a lot like some of my very first attempts at gunblogging. I sincerely hope she keeps shooting (and writing about it!)

What more can you ask than for somebody to at least try looking at it with an open mind?

Good on her!

All people with an open mind can be guided to try.

A new chick shooter posted her "first time" here:

My First Time, Part II

I'm honored that she shared that on my blog.

Having an open mind, recognizing that you have prejudices, and being willing to challenge them is the 1st step.

I'm glad she took it and hope she takes many more.

I'm gonna have to sit on the fence on this one. Not sure what she was trying to accomplish by taking this class or writing about it.

Sounds more like she had a slow news day or got into an un-winnable discussion with someone over CCW and signed up for the class for "research."

Either way, she was exposed to some serious, undeniable truths--as most reporters are.

What she does with those truths is what we need to be watching carefully.

That was worth reading for this "admiring the blossom of little dark holes." Heh.

We always win the battle when we can get the "anti"s to have an open mind. I invite non-shooters to the range every chance I get. This is another clear "win".
