As a retired Soldier still working for the Army, I think the compromise was necessary. There's no way the press would present the Senate not passing, or the President vetoing the CR that funded DoD for the year as anything other than a Republican problem. Imagine some deployed Specialist's wife worrying on air about how to feed her babies while Daddy is fighting in Afghanistan... What bothers me the most is just how many people believe it when Obama says he offered $70+ billion in cuts, when it was based on his FY12 budget and not on current spending. And, for the record, I'd vote for Donald Duck if he was the Republican candidate facing Obama.
I saw that part of his clip, too. That and Cowboy poetry. I hope the Nevadans truly understand the mental giant they bought!
Sure you don't want to run against Latourette in the Primary? I'd do it, but all those Skeletons in my Closet jangling in the Wind would drown out my Speechifying.
Even if the Republicans had gotten everything they wanted on their wishlist, it wouldn't have made much of a difference. It's like bailing out the Titanic with a hotel room ice bucket.
Though it doesn't take away from the Stupid Party's turdness (turdiness?), there was a bit of strategic smart on Boehner's part.
Now if Reid only follows through with the votes on Obamacare repeal and defunding Planned Parenthood, setting up the Dems for another bloodbath in 2012 as they have to go on record again as supporting it.
I would have a preferred a shutdown, but it's clear that a shutdown isn't much of a shutdown, given how much actually stays up and running.
It sucks having to wait another 21 months to get some real change we can believe in, and I'm sure there would have been a better outcome if the GOP establishment had any cojones.
But as the Senate holds its nose and votes on Obamacare repeal, they'll be plenty of voters with keyboards in hand waiting for the list of Dems who still support the monstrosity.
