good gear

Weer'd readers are already aware of this, but I bought myself a new holster. I have been looking for something a bit sturdier than my old leather JBP belt slide and made it my mission to find one at the NRA Annual Meeting in Pittsburgh.

Unimpressed with Blackhawk's Serpa line, I eventually stumbled across the Galco booth. It seemed they had quite a few options for my Bersa Thunder .380 but in the end, I opted for the simplest design, an M7X Matrix.

(you'd think the most famous Bersa on the internet would garner some swag, right?)

Here's the zoom:

Aside from being one of the best looking plastic holsters available (everyone thinks it's hand molded leather) the M7X is low profile, high set, and has some serious retention - I love it. It's comfortable because the safety no longer digs into the curve of my hip, my Bersa feels more secure since the gun doesn't slide around on my belt and the absolute best part? No more having to unholster when I, um...visit the ladies' room to powder my nose.

If Bersa hasn't yet offered to hire you as a spokesmodel, they need a new PR firm.

They're really missing out, aren't they.

Truthfully, I didn't know you had a holster on you at the Tiltin Kilt's "Gun Free Zone/Hassle the Customers Event" on Friday Night until you showed us. It blends in so well. Now all you need is a second one in Brown. Personally, I'm waiting on my Fugly from Dragonleatherworks to arrive in a few weeks, then I'll finally have a decent summer holster for my Smith 4043.

You look great! Not bad for a librarian... Not bad at all... :)

I have a the Glock version which works with the baby Glock, and the Long barreled Glock, and does a passable job with my Ruger 22/45.

Good to know. I'm considering an M7X for my CW45. Your review has helped me to decide. Thanks!

It certainly seems to have put a smile of contentment on your face. If that is not a feel good happy smile, nothing is. Good luck with the holster - hope it wears well and keeps the gun secure.

All the best,
Glenn B

That looks surprisingly good for a thermoplastic holster. Unfortunately I have been ruined by Matt Del Fatti. After my first holster from him I have never bought kydex or the like again.

Very nice holster, but I'm curious, what did you dislike about the Serpa?

well, for one thing, they weren't selling. Secondly, Serpa has that whole mall ninja/Warrior Wear vibe that turns me off. Sure they might be excellent holsters, but....meh.

Ah, fair enough. The Serpa's don't sit as close to the body as that does, and in my experience they really wear the finish on the gun.

I don't like Serpa's for smaller guns (I.E. airweights, Bersa 380's) so I'm gonna order one of these and see how it works.

Thanks for the review Breda!

I just ordered one of these for my wife. I got her the Bersa for Christmas and she's a much happier shooter now. She was trying to work around a Glock 26.

Bersa is really messing the parade here. I first started looking at it for my wife because of your comments here.

I have a serpa for another gun I own and I've noticed it taking the finish off of the gun. I have also have mine hold on to the gun a little too tight making drawing very difficult. If I were in a life or death situation and couldn't draw, I think I would be a little disappointed. IIRC, Brigid at http://mausersandmuffins.blogspot.com/ had one break on her during a range trip. The gun wouldn't release at all.

I've got a SERPA (the cheap Sporter Model) that I carry my Glock in around the ranch. Mike's right, they do keep the gun farther from the hip, which is handy if you have an untucked shirt or jacket, But I wouldn't use it for concealment: Too bulky.
I use a Galco IWB for that. I've never noticed holster wear, but then who give a crap about the finish on a Glock?

Also +1 on Bersa missing out. They make great guns (my first carry gun was a Bersa Series 83, all steel, beautiful bluing and wood grips.) and my only complaint is that the slide starts cutting my hands after a fifty or so rounds. Still, they are fantastic little guns

Hah! Thanks :)

I bought one a few years ago for a Springfield XD. It was comfortable and easy to draw but the portion protruding from the exposed portion of the slide was getting scratched up by my seatbelt buckle. I need to find that holster and give it another try.

I was going to ask if you at least got a Bersa sticker, but it sounds like Rafael may have you swagged up with Bersa goodies soon enough.
