Angel* gets her wings

Monday night I met up with a few friends from the library. I was the last to arrive and as I made my way to the table, I noticed that Holly (who I don't see nearly often enough now that she's moved on from the library) was rummaging around in her purse and pulled out a stack of what looked like business cards. She shuffled through them, found the one she was looking for, and put it down on the table in front of me.

I picked it up. It wasn't a business card.

"No!" I gasped. "No WAY!"

Holly nodded. "Yep. I did it about two weeks ago."

Holly had her CCW.

As I grinned and offered my congratulations, she said, "This is thanks to you."

(Well, shucks, ma'am.)

I think this calls for a little One Girl Revolution...

...and Buffy, because she totally kicks ass.
And, you know what? So do we.

Awesome! Congratulations Holly and way to go Breda!

That is great! What's she carrying? A Bersa?

Yes, Buffy does kick ass, and a friend of Breda's who carries and does roller derby probably does as well.

But, good for her! - and you.

Thank you, and thanks to Breda who hooked me in. :)

I carry the S&W .380 Bodyguard. I wanted something easy and small to carry as a relative novice.

The cop that was giving the class said to me, "You know, that's only going to make them mad." And I promptly asked him if he's ever tried to carry his .357 under tight girl clothes. After a blank stare, his solution was a fanny pack.

Any girl (and fashionably aware man) just cringed at the thought like I did. I'll take my .380.

Well done, Holly! And thanks, Breda, for the conversion of another.

I carry a full size .45 daily and it is NOT easy - esp trying to cover in 101 degree weather. I am looking for a smaller Springfield, myself, in .45 to lighten the load a bit.

There ARE lots of nice carry purses out there but the weight doesn't change - esp with spare mags. I usually just carry on the hip for that reason but am thinking about mocking up a thigh holster for under skirts...

Mom chose a Ruger LCP, so she can carry when wearing beltless jeans. Her PK380 is a bit too heavy, and pulls her pants down, so she was leaving it at home. She has ordered a MicroClip Crossbreed Holster, which should work more easily for her than a pocket holster.

Outstanding!

Thank you for the suggestions! I will definitely look into them. I had trouble finding a purse that was my style, good for carrying and can also house my iPad (which I take everywhere). I am still in the market for one and also looking for ways to carry comfortably on person at times, so any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

Holly - If you're looking for something for purse carry I'd recommend having Michael from The Holster Site make you one.

I've seen it in person and it is unbelievably well made and holds the gun (and spare mags) quite securely while allowing for easy access.

I got chilly bumps reading this. A big Congrats to you, Holly. You rock!

Another way to go Breda.

WooHoo! Congratulations to both of you! Good work.

Congrats! Obviously you are a GOOD influence (not that I expected anything less)!

For years you really couldn't find .380 ammunition that would penetrate deeply enough AND expand. So it was regarded as a marginal defensive cartridge.

That's not the case any longer. Companies like Winchester and Hornady now produce factory hollowpoints that will both penetrate deep enough to hit vital organs and expand while doing so.

The next time some clown tells you "it will only make them mad" ask him where he wants to take one to prove his point.

Good job! Welcome to the community! I have one of those bodyguards, and yeah, it's miniature for big hands like mine, but with the right load a .380 will make the bad guy think twice, or stop thinking entirely, but the bodyguard's easy to hide. Just keep the laser checked out.

Woo hoo!

And yes, if you want a gorgeous purse talk to Michael. The man does excellent work, and uses top quality materials. It's an investment, but my bag was worth it.

Thanks! I will definitely have to check out those bullets, and that handmade bag by Michael looks amazing! Yes, I just wanted a compromise between easy conceal and power. The bodyguard is super slim and something I can handle as a newbie. :)

"You know, that's only going to make them mad."

Ask him if he'd be willing to stand in front of it and catch a round or two.

As with real-estate, handgun shooting is all about location, location, location. As others have noted, good performing .380 ammo is available. It's not my first choice, but it beats the gun you leave at home.

And anti-rights nuts everywhere are quietly weeping into their jack-and-cokes right now.

Bully for you! ;)

The more legally armed citizens the better and I like that little BG .380! As others have said, is that cop serious!? No one wants to get shot with a .22 let alone the 9mm short. Congrats to you and let's keep getting more and more folks into shooting and carrying! Go Breda, Go Holly, Go US!

Holly,
another holster option is a "belly band". Both Galco and DeSantis make these. The Galco is better, I think. Looks similar to ones I have, made by Guardian Leather, who seem to have disappeared. Bear in mind, they are "handed", just like most other holsters.
Both venders also make planners, and similar type hidden gun holders. Plus, belt pouches that look like equipment type holders. Don't forget ankle holsters, and shoulder rigs.

Most holster makers have websites that show what they build. Do a web search for them. There are a LOT of them out there.

I adored the Buffy Series...

Anyone who is snobbish about low caliber, I always ask them if they'd want to take a hit from one to illustrate?

Never got any takers yet!

Must be my sinister evil Tom Selleck giggle!
