A+

I aced the written CCW test. Despite the fact that it was probably one of the easiest tests I've ever taken, I still studied and even gave Mike the mean librarian glare when he gave me silly answers while I was quizzing him. My inner honors student demanded we get 100%, dammit...and we did.

During the shooting portion of the class, we were instructed on grip, trigger squeeze, and four different shooting positions: bench rest, standing, and single hand with both the strong and the weak hand. We shot 15 rounds from each position - 5 rounds at three different distances - and even though I wasn't allowed to use my laser sights (because what if someday the battery fails?), I still got all of my shots on the paper, if not directly in the center of the bullseye.

The last 25 rounds were for us to practice whatever we worst at - but I asked Leah if I could please shoot something other than single hand, weak hand because my left hand was stinging and almost numb after only 15 rounds. Shooting a double action only, snubnose, airweight .38 caliber revolver with my weakest hand qualifies as Not Fun.

Shooting done, we were awarded our certificates. I looked at Mike and grinned. We did it! Easy peasy. Tonight we're going to the sheriff's office to apply for our licenses.

On the way home, we stopped at the grocery store. I ran in to get what we needed (beer. Duh.) and Mike stayed in the car with the guns. Burning River Pale Ale paid for, I walked across the parking lot, got in the car and Mike said, "You have that whole Tam vibe going on."

I was wearing black Doc Marten's, jeans, a black belt with an empty holster, a long sleeved gray t-shirt...and a baseball cap (required to have one for the CCW class, I had bought myself one the day before).

"What? How? Tam is like 3 feet taller than me and blond," I scoffed.

"I don't know," Mike said, "Maybe it's the hat - but you look really good."

"Riiiiight, okay, sure." I changed the subject, but inside I was giddy with the compliment. Me... tacti-cool!!

Congrats, I had no doubt you would ace the test. You in a ballcap? Hmmm...I have an unusual weakness for women in ball caps...tee hee hee

Are we sick men if we find ourselves strangely aroused by the sight of our significant others in an agressive shooting stance, launching lead downrange?

I'm sure there's an Oprah episode in there somewhere.

Congrats on your CCW. Too bad you (we) have to go get a permission slip from the Gov.

Duce, if that's sick, then I don't ever want to be well.

The second best pictures I have of my wife are her at the range. The first is one I took when we first started dating of her tackling me and laughing hysterically. I keep that photo by me all the time.

Congrats on the pass!

Congratulations!

And you do realze that you legions of devoted fans are clamouring for a picture of the mean librarian glare?

Congrats! I took my range part of this weekend too. My instructor was actually very insistent that while I get everything on the piece of paper I NOT get everything towards the bulls-eye. He wanted me to shoot my little heart out, and definitely keep everything on the paper, but focus significantly more on speed.

I also discovered I shoot equally with both single hands. Who'd have thought. It surprised me.

Passed with flying colours. ^_^ Maybe I'll get my shiny piece of paper from the Sheriff in time for my birthday!

outstanding, breda, congratulations!

and more gratifying than the swellage some of us might experience "at" the sight of a chickwithagun is the shrinkage experienced by that oneinathousand bad guy "in" the sight of that same badazz chick...jtc

Why did you have to buy a baseball cap?

lydia - It's a Guinness cap, too!

deuce and robb - you are both kinky weirdos, admit it. (kidding!)

peter, thank you

fearsclave - it's all in the eyebrow.

tyskkvinna - yay for us!!

jtc - Ha! You certainly know how to create a mental image.

earthbound - the brim of a hat is a good guard against flying brass hitting you in the face and/or getting behind your protective eyewear (ouch)

"Maybe it's the hat - but you look really good."

When a person is feeling confident, and knows that they have accomplished something important to them, it always makes them look better, both in body language and their facial expressions.

Congrats, Breda.

How long does it usually take the card to come in your state?

What, no picture of you in hat holster and Docs looking suave and debonair? What a gyp.

rust - it all depends on the county. I've been told our county is pretty quick, though.

TBolt - this, from the international man of mystery! But I'll take a photo, just for you. Someday. Maybe. ;)

I think I speak for the legions when I say we want pics of you with the hat.

Yay! :-D Hopefully your state doesn't drag its feet as much as mine is in actually GETTING the permit to you...

Congratulations!

Only your best, of course, and I share in the moment - but I do want you to work on that 'weak' hand - having met Murphy many times I always think that weak one will be the one you will need most when it really counts and as soon as it becomes "just as good as" Murphy will have to make magic elsewhere. Work it well, lady.

Tam - Men's section at Walmart, on clearance. $5 and it can be yours!

chris - congrats to you too!

squeaky - the deputy said to call in 7-10 days, so YAY!!

earl - thank you for such wise, thoughtful advice. always.

Being one who's always looking to keep that newlywed feeling alive, I felt inspired by your post today. When Margie walked in from work, I said, "You could try to look more like Tam. She's tall and blonde, you know."

Please define "giddy" for me so I can see if that's really how she felt.

This went worse than the time I sent her out in the snowstorm for cookies!

Remember to file those certificates away you will need them in 5 yrs when you renew.
Also it's not a bad idea to copy your application, & file with your certs that way you only have to update the next one & not research all the addresses again.
Congrats on aceing the class

"Tam is like 3 feet taller than me and blond,"

It's not about the altitude, it's about the attitude!

and you have it!

1) Never allow the muzzle to cover anything you don't want to destroy.

2) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are on target.

3) Treat every gun as if it were always loaded.

4) Be sure of your target and what's behind it.

5) You have to wear a ball cap.

There. It's official.
