My readers rock my socks.

Know why? Because they have serious cojones. My friend Kaveman* called H-S Precision about the Lon Horiuchi debacle yesterday. Here's what happened...

Kaveman: Good morning, I was wondering if your company supplied a sample target with the sale of your rifles to attest to their accuracy.

H-S: Yes, in fact we provide a sample target and the cartridge load data for every sale.

Kaveman: In light of your new spokesmen, Lon Horiuchi, I was wondering if you would send me a target of a dead woman holding a baby if I agree to buy one of your rifles?

H-S: (short pause) Uh, that would be outside of the scope of our company.

Kaveman: Do you think having a murderer of an unarmed woman holding a 10 month old baby give a testimonial about the quality of your products was a wise business move?

H-S: We will be making a public statement shortly concerning this issue.

Kaveman: Regardless of anything you do or say in the future, I will never patronize your business, goodbye.

See? Socks rocked. So awesome. But, yeah...we're all still waiting for something, anything, resembling a statement from the H-S Precision company.

* sends super witty emails, has all the guns, promises me lots of bacon and a free place to stay in the scenic wilds of the Northwest. Terrific guy, right? Totally a shoo-in for the Bredalucion goonsquad army. And, ladies? He's single! (I think.)

How about Gun Rights Examiner for Ohio?

When will you be getting behind and supporting that great cause in your own backyard?

So...about that last bit....

If he will never patronize them again, why would they change their position? Perhaps "I will never patronize your business unless you repudiate Lon Horiuchi" would be a better plan. You have to give them an "out" to do the right thing

Other then that...well done.

You seem to be implying that it is intelligent, brave, ballsy to call Lon Horiuchi a murderer. Is it really? Are you actually aware of the facts surrounding the shooting in which he killed Vicki Weaver, or just the hype.

I did not, and still do not, agree with why the FBI went into Ruby Ridge back then. Yet the shots fired by Horiuchi were not those fired by a murderer in my understanding of the shooting, and I am trying to keep my thoughts on this objective and based upn what facts I know thereby leaving out my emotions.

Is it a good move for HS-Precision to have him endorse their products - I think not. I think it was an extremely poor choise, but I also think that calling him a murderer is just an emotional outburst.

All the best,
Glenn B

Well, if you want to come to the NorthEast, Jay has all the guns and I have all the bacon. The Lovely and Monogamous Mrs. Borepatch reminds me to say that we're both married, though.

Shooting an unarmed woman from distance certainly qualifies as muder to me.

Lon may not have purposely aimed and fired at Vicki, but he should have never fired into a blind door as a professional sniper. He did so out of lack of regard, and in a smug sense of being "an untouchable govt agent". He knew there were women and children present at the target site.

At least, that is why I consider Lon to be scum. There really is no defending him, or HS Precision's douchbaggery.

And on topic - that is an awesome phone call indeed.

Reading about the case in intensive detail only makes the FBI, BATF, and Horiuchi look worse and worse, not better. The site I linked is usually very sympathetic to law enforcement, and not at all sympathetic to "weirdos" like the Weavers, but what was done was grisly enough regardless that the .gov doesn't come off at all well, to put it mildly.

It only wasn't murder if you think the difference between a righteous shooting and murder can be defined by a badge and an order.

Pacific NW? I'd like to buy Kaveman a beer when I get home.

I cimpletely agree with Labrat. It took em a few years to look into the mater, but I can come to no other conclusions but that Lon Horiuchi is a murderer who was protected by the government because he was an agent. His actions esily pass muster as manslaughter, and in my opinion slide over into deliberate murder. There was no justification to be shooting at anyone in that house, (zero immanent danger to anyone) and the fact that he murdered Vicky Weaver alone and not her baby is just an accident.

Hey, if they don't want to get flak, don't consort with folks who killed innocent human beings.

I just want to second the offer to buy Kaveman a beer. I'm in NW Ohio, for what it's worth.

That was priceless.

Glen, he shot down an unarmed woman because he was ordered to do so. If you think that's acceptable, you're in the same class as a whole bunch of concentration camp guards.

Maybe She might terminate the contract in '12?

Dave, some say he didn't get that order. Scary thought.

Larry and Epijunky, I live in Oregon and Breda knows how to contact me.

I like dark beers.

To those who think I was a bit rash in calling lon a murderer, I only concede that I should have used the more correct term, manslaughterer.

If I were to shoot someone and that shot passed through my intended target and killed an innocent behind my target, I would be charged and convicted of manslaughter.

A prank phone call? What, are you in the 7th grade? A reasonable, well thought statement might be taken more seriously. Now? You're probably considered to be just another asshole.

You know who are really assholes? Cowards who leave anonymous comments.

Some people don't understand my sense of humor, I get that. But I also don't feel the need to call other people names...like I did back in the 7th grade.
