(a continuation of my "Chicks with Guns" project)
Connie and I are colleagues at the library and suspect that we are the only non-Democrats on staff. We try to keep it slightly hush-hush, keeping our outlandish viewpoints to ourselves so as not to scare the other ladies at work. When I started shooting I had mentioned it to Connie and she told me that it was something she'd always wanted to try. I was happy to oblige.
We met at the range yesterday and I brought all of our pistols. She seemed a little nervous at first but that all dissolved after she began to shoot. I started her on the .22 automatic then had her try the .22 revolver, explaining the difference between single action and double action, and how trigger pull affects your aim. I then brought out the .38s so she could feel what a bigger caliber was like. (she said, "Wow! that really is different!)I was amazed at how well she did with the .38 snubby. She really liked the laser sight.
We had the range to ourselves so we were able to talk a bit about guns, shooting and how they can be empowering for women. Connie has 2 daughters, one in her 20s and one still in high school. She'd like them both to know how to shoot and how to handle firearms safely. (I am predicting another trip to the range in the future!) While packing up to leave, Connie mentioned that she felt different now that she's shot a gun...more sure of herself, stronger somehow. I nodded in agreement because, yeah, I know the feeling.

One point awarded. Let me know if she wants a return trip for your bonus point :)
West - check out my other "chicks with guns" posts. I've taken Connie, Nicole, my mom, and my friend Holly. 4 points!
Send me details.
Here is the tally sheet and the finalized rules.
I only found Connie and Nicole. Did you blog Holly and your mother's trips?
Ah, I see. Holly and my mom were before October, and were posted in my livejournal.
Holly
Mom
Doesn't count for points, but still good to read! =)
Breda,
Do you hear that sound?
That's Sarah Brady crying in the background...
Good on you, and good on Connie!
Now we'll all have to "drop out of school"!
Hey, I took 46 Cub Scouts (and 8 of their parents) last Saturday. Seven hours straight (yeah--I missed a free Boy
Scout lunch) on my feet (knees, hips) without shutting up once. And you have to handle Cubs very, very carefully. Only two females though: one lovely and talented; the other one was her mom.
comatus: That'll look good on your sainthood application at the very least. I like kids, but in small doses spaced far apart.
Breda: that's cool. I had to set the cutoff date somewhere... I just hope you keep it up! Remember to apply for bonus points when people ask to go back to the range.

THIS is what the gun ban groups most fear.
Excellent work!
