Fa la la la...nah.

We're not putting a tree up this year. Not even a little one. My Christmas ornaments are mostly breakable and mostly shaped liked birds. And since we have 2 kittens (also sometimes referred to as "The Spawn of Satan") who love nothing more than pure unadulterated naughtiness, I decided that it was a bad idea. Not a battle I was willing to fight.

I'd like a quiet holiday, a nice meal, maybe some hot chocolate by the fire, hugs from my niece and nephew, time spent with those I love...but, this year, I am just not feeling it. When did Christmas suddenly become more chore than fun?

I don't like shopping to begin with and being forced to hunt down multiple perfect, thoughtful (but still reasonably priced) gifts (and stocking stuffers!) in hot crowded malls filled with screaming children and oblivious people on cell phones who walk right into me (what the hell? I know that I'm short but am I invisible too?), all while getting ignored or mistreated by surly salespeople...honestly, I might like waterboarding better. At least I'd be off my feet.

That's OK, "Christmas" trees are a pagan tradition anyway.

Thats why I love my festivus pole my cats can't figure out how to climb it and knock it down...it also helps to stray it with Pam gives them an extra challenge...

Our cat would eat tinsel. Unfortunately, our cat could not digest tinsel...We were able to deal with ornaments by keeping the breakable ones high, using sturdy ones for the bottom layer.

I agree with you on shopping. I generally save one vacation day so I can shop on a weekday in late December. Still hell, but not the deeper levels.

I'm a 6'1 size XL male, and the cellphone people don't see me either. I've contemplated just stopping and not dodging to see if they bounce... They don't bother me as much as the people who stand beside their cart to more effectively block the aisle, with bonus points for doing this where there is a narrow spot already.

that bird is having a serious problem with tinsel diarrhea

sevesteen - I'm a 5'0" size S female. I'd be the one bouncing - when I hit the ground.

Oh, good. I'm not the only one despising this season. I'm sure the wife will complain but we're not getting a tree either. I'm not spending $50+ for it to be up a week and have to deal w/ the spawnlings and cats yanking it down every few hours. I did almost all my shopping online or at Rural King. To hell w/ the malls.

Well... FOOEY. :)

I'm a big kid at Christmas. I even like shopping.

But only for my kids. Especially my son - lately I've taken to looking for games (video and board) that we can play together.

And there is simply nothing on earth like Christmas morning through the eyes of a child.

Magic. Pure and simple magic.

JayG - maybe they have Rent-a-Kid at the mall.

My favorite holiday was Thanksgiving a few years ago when I cooked a 27# turkey... There were only 3 of us, sitting around in sweats and gym shoes, eating, hanging out, drinking.

Now that is a fond memory!

I skipped the tree and all last year, and was depressed by whatever. This year I put the tree and some decorations up inside the house and the lights on the tree warm my morning and evening thoughts, since the Sun has fled to warmer climes.

Worse. Lutheran.

I'm with you, Breda.

Except with me it's puppies, whom I've christened the Little Shits, who would certainly destroy any decorations I might put up.
Shopping? Forget it. I picked up a few things while "regular" shopping, and that's it.

Bah Humbug.

"not that there's anything wrong with that..."

I haven't been in the mood either. No seasonal musical gigs, and I have TWO families to do Xmas with this year.

But the tree...yeah. we had a half-wild barn cat get in several years ago, who did major damage to the decorates (and to ME) before we got it out.
