the waiting game

This morning at work, I handed in a form requesting permission for the Cleveland Friends of the NRA to hold a meeting here. None of the members would be allowed to carry in the library - obviously - but it's a nice big room and it's free. The date is open and all we need now is for the library director to give her consent and sign the form.

So I'm sitting here expecting the library director to come to my desk and interrogate me. She is, as I noted in an earlier post (excuse the language), very anti-gun.

UPDATE: the woman who schedules meeting room appointments chose not to ask the director to sign off on the request, so as to avoid any hubbub. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed.

Eh, it's a (c)3. If she protests, it's okay to wonder why she's against raising money for education that teaches kids to stay away from guns. What anti-gunner can be against that?

Just don't mention that only part of the money goes there. Most of it goes to bringing more people into shooting. But it's all about the spin and delivery. :)

I thought public libraries had to make their meeting rooms open to any event, as long as it is free and open to the public. You're not having your event there...just a planning meeting. I guess they can't give you grounds for turning you down, considering the scheduler never forwards it to the director.

When they wanted to build a public golf course for the benefit of the County, I suggested they add a rifle pistol range to part of it to expand the capabilities of the County to provide safe recreation for its citizens - but they like more heart attacks on Golf courses than on firing ranges. I guess.

Brent - I know that they couldn't possibly turn us down, but I dread any sort of conversation with the director. And one about guns? Extra double yikes.

There's something to be said for low-profile, esp. considering the general political take of LibrarianWorld.

I know....low profile = low risk...I used to practice that, once upon a time. ;)
