just doin' my job...

One of my duties as reference librarian requires me to shelve and display the new books, both fiction and nonfiction, to attract readers and increase circulation. Sometimes when I have extra time and am a little bit bored I like to amuse myself by trying to display books thematically. I choose books according to the color of the cover art, or because the books all have animals in their titles, or were all written by women...you get the idea.

Despite my efforts, no one has ever noticed or commented on my carefully chosen display titles. They remain my own little secret and as I walk by the new books shelf, I chuckle inwardly and congratulate myself on my own cleverness. (which, truthfully, is probably just weirdness)

So, someday, if you ever come visit my library and just happen to notice that these three books are flanked by these two...well, it's probably not a coincidence.

I like it. I hope I would've noticed if I saw that juxtiposition.

Oh god that's great. I'd have a hard time not noticing that in the library, though I'd hope to steer clear of books about Clinton, Pelosi, or Katie Couric.

I've heard the people that name streets like to play similar games. The street names will have an obvious theme, but the order is selected based on the 3rd or 4th character (so the order isn't so obvious).

I'd like to register a complant...no men in that series? Come on now, there are more than enough republican men who are train wrecks from the short bus.

Do you never spell out rude words? Childish but deeply satisfying.
