True. As a Brit I find it embarassing and as an Englishman infuriating.

Still one does have to ask which numptie at UEFA thought it would be a clever plan to invite 150,000 notoriousy sectarian Glaswegian neds to an English city with quite a high catholic population (Liverpool, Britain's most Irish City is just down the road), give them an excuse to drink themselves stupid(er) with a 50:50 chance of them being bitterly disappointed at the end.

I'm not excusing what happened, but with decades of dealing with this sort of violence across Europe* you would have thought the authorities would have learnt how not to create such emotive flashpoints. And if they couldnt avoid that, why the hell weren't more cops drafted in before hand?

*French, Dutch, German, Italian and other "fans" can be just as violent and senseless.

I'm confused. Why didn't the Queen Mum just come down and shush everyone?

Dont get me Started, Football is something i hate and it is worse when you mix in the Scots,in my opinion Henry the VIIIth had the right idea when he banned football.

kaveman,

She died a couple of years ago.

I've always thought the best way to deal with football fans is a couple of brigades of cavalry supported by a goodly number of machine guns.

You might have guessed, like AJDShootist, I'm not a great supporter of the round ball game or its followers

Breda,

The Great in "Great Britain" does not refer to the quality of life there, it refers to the geographic fact that it is the largest of the British Isles. Should the UK become populated with nothing but goats and sand crabs, the island will still be the largest and hence "Great Britain".
