Blood may be thicker than water...

...but water is not nearly as messy.
_______________________

To say that many of my familial relationships are difficult would be putting it mildly. Whether it's due to geographical distance, neglect, or long standing family grudges that I don't have the patience for, most of them, in fact, are nonexistent. I hate drama, am a bit anti-social, and tend to avoid people once they've hurt me. I may always love them, and will help them when they need me, but that doesn't mean I have to let them walk all over me. And over the years, I've learned that you can't force people care about you as much as you care about them - sometimes you just have to stop trying before you get your heart broken.

The reason for this personal confession is because I keep thinking of part of a comment I left at Squeaky's blog:
"...love the family you have and make family out of the friends you love."
The people who are in my life now bring me joy, and I think it's because we consciously chose each other. All of us seem to have a similar feeling of: "Life is so short" and treat each other with care and consideration. I have created my own happiness...nothing forced, nothing obligatory - and all of it true.

...and since we are each other's biggest fans, I finally told my mom about my blog.

It's kind of cool when your own personal hero is proud of you.

Congrats on telling your mom about your blog. My parents know I have one, but haven't actually been "told" about it.

In recent years, I've been trying more to surround myself with people like that - it fights my personality type, though, so it's a little hard.

My mom's known about my blog for a while, and my dad just started reading. It's odd.

Thanks for your kind words.

I think my folks are aware that there is this thing called the "internet" that Al Gore invented.

Hell, my wife doesn't even read my blog (which is probably a good thing, as I've posted guns she doesn't know about).

Good on you for sharing with Mom Fallacy. Guess I'll have to watch my language from now on... ;)

mike, I'm assuming your parents wouldn't approve of your subject matter.

squeaky, you're very welcome.

JayG - hahaha. Watch your language around my mom? Why? I don't!

Dad has become a bit of a hoplophobe and was quite concerned about my new hobby, but after reading my blog for a few weeks he's actually kinda pleased. Prolly because he thought I'd go all Militia-Unabomber-GunNut-SHALLNOTINFRINGE on him.

I haven't told him I want to buy land in the hills, build a tarpaper shack, and start writing my manifesto on a manual typewriter, yet.

Start of manifesto:

"Civilization revolves around Pie, and I knew the endtimes was near when Breda warned me of the threat to Pies everwhere. Now the perfect Pie, as everyone know, is a properly made Key Lime........"

[Word verification pieksvu. No foolin. Saw it AFTER I wrote the comment, too.]

TBolt, I am flattered to be part of your nutty manifesto.

And I agree with you about the key lime. Nomnomnom.

Good Sir Thunderbolt:
I'll concede the fact that a properly made Key Lime pie is truly a bit of heaven. I will respectfully submit that a properly made apple, or boysenberry, or blackberry pie will be a very strong candidate for the best pie of all. Of course, obtaining one that is properly made is the greatest of challenges. I believe that properly made pies ceased to exist on this earth upon the death of my grandmother. However, a good welsh cake is a pleasure with a cup of tea.

Is that a painting or a photoshopped picture?

I was fooling around with photobucket's editing widget and it turned out pretty neat, so I thought I'd use it.

Mrs. Weer'd knows about my blog, and will read some posts I'm either proud of, or want her reaction to...but only when prompted. Oh and by "Prompted" I mean, "I load it on her computer, then drag her into her office and set her down to read it". FYI this fails as often as it suceeds.

My Father's computer has exactly ONE bookmark on internet explorer, and that's my blog. They have yet to venture on it. I guess that part is good, because I often wax about my odd interpretation of my Father. On one hand he's pulled all the Obama Apologist talking points (where get gets his talking points from, I don't know, but he might as well be a regular reader of the Huff-Po and the Daily Kos....Though as I'm thinking about it he has a subscription to Newsweek that he reads cover-to-cover...)

But on the other side he taught me everything I know about hard work and monitary self-sacrifice (I've been agressivly saving for my retirement since my late-teens, and have never had any credit card debt to my name. All my fiscal conservatism, and my sceptical nature to what the town criers cry about, I learned from him....yet he supports and defends communists who, as I'd fathom, drag his principals in the mud.

I've tried to talk to him about this in person, but it usally falls apart fairly quickly...leading me to blow off steam in Weer'd World

I've very glad your mom knows about your blog. In case she is not used to the salty, sometime coarse, reality-based, direct language used in gun blogs, I feel the need to post the following:

HECK!

DANG!

HOLY SMOKE!

SHOOT-FIRE!

BUTTALEEHADDA!

DARN!

(I) DOUBLE-DOG DARE (you).

JEEZ-O-PETE!

H.E. DOUBLE L!

Sorry Mom, you are just going to have to get used to a rough crowd.

One of the things that I find most prevalent in the gay community is making family out of your friends, as sadly sometimes families don't understand. I'm blessed to have you as part of my family.
