Proud, but not out

When Mike and I met Clint K and his family for dinner at the brewery a couple of weeks ago, they were nice enough to bring us some swag from their recent VCDL event, including the badge I'm wearing in the photo above. (I'm going to put this on my range bag, next to my Unorganized Militia Propaganda Corps patch.) I noticed that Clint had a bumpersticker on his car and I told him that I'd love one for mine.

Then I realized that I'd have to drive that car to work and park it right near the library director's office window. I'm kind of surprised that I'm not already getting frisked when I go to work, so I hardly want to push the issue.

At the next VCDL meeting on the 17th, Alan Gura will be speaking. There will also be a special surprise (if FedEx gets the package there in time...)

Should be good times. Even more fun than the meeting is dinner afterwards, err, I mean "fellowship", which is still a lot of fun.

I have a bumper sticker on my car that means a lot to me and it is very important to me that I have it -- it's a gay pride sticker. But I had gotten a lot of.. hassle.. from a similar one on my last vehicle. So this time I put it in a less obvious spot (in the bottom of a side window) I like this compromise. Most people don't notice it, but those that do just give me a thumbs up. :)

I'll all for decorating the range bag but not so much putting pro-gun stuff on your car. In my opinion there's no reason to make the car a target, or your house if you park the car outside.

Where can I get one of the "propaganda corps" patches?

Let's see...

NRA sticker? Check.
GOAL (Gun Owner's Action League) sticker? Check.
Harley logo? Check.
AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) sticker? Check.
"Al Gore Can Kiss My Carbon Footprint" bumper sticker? Check.

Interestingly enough, not too many people hassle the 6' tall shaved head biker about the ornaments on his truck...

The vast majority of people will have no idea.

I am also wrestling with whether to 'press the issue' or not. As Mike W. says, it kind of makes you a target.
Jay G: I am a pretty big guy too, with a full beard, and the only people who hassle me are cops. It seems they take my size and appearance as a challenge, even though I am unfailingly polite. I realize this is a fight I can't win, so I tend to avoid cops wherever I can, and I don't "advertise" my affiliations on my vehicle.
Also, there are just too many punks who will vandalize your truck when you're away from it. Cowardly, but what'cha gonna do?

I used to have a mess of affiliation stickers, NRA, California Rifle and Pistol Assn., KTM, FMF, District 36 (off road racing), and more on my old truck - but don't have any on my new truck. I just don't have a compulsion to represent anymore.
Around here there's lotsa crazies with their cars plastered with evidence of idle brains at best and massive stupidity at worst, from "Coexist" with the Koranic crescent moon, to BushHitler, to old, peeling, Kerry for President stickers - I assume the level of derangement escalates according to the number of stickers.

You want to live dangerously, put a "W" sticker on your car and park it in Seattle. The people of tolerance and diversity will key it in a heartbeat.

Speaking of such people, I have noted that there's probably an 80% chance that a "Free Tibet" sticker will be accompanied by a "No War in Iraq" one, and I used to wonder why Tibetans deserved freedom but not Iraqis. Eventually I realized that they aren't using the word "free" as a verb. They say "Free Tibet" in the same way I might say "I like cheese." It's simply a statement of preference, not of intent.

I have a sticker that says "It is your duty as an American to own a gun and know how to use it"

Never had a negative comment; never had the car broken in to.

But the sticker is very faded. If anyone knows where to get another, please let me know.......
