new & improved

You might notice I've made a couple of changes here at The Breda Fallacy.

First, I'm turning off the word verification doo-dad because having to reproduce eight letters all smooshed up in a strange curlicue font is probably just plain irritating for those of you who would like to comment.

Second, I have disabled the anonymous commenting because having to deal with cowards is just plain irritating for me. This blog uses my real first name and I am accountable for everything I write. I even post photos of myself. So if I am brave enough to do this, you should at least be able to put a name on your comments. Own up to whatever it is you have to say or don't say anything at all. Hiding behind anonymity is pathetic - grow a pair.

I never could get the bozo word thing right on the first try. I always got the j's and i's and l's mixed up. So, it filtered out my comments when I was only luke warm on something. I was unwilling to put out the effort to overcome that obstacle to commenting. Now that it is easy, I'll be spouting off about every little thing.

terrific! I look forward to it. =)

I always wonder why fecktards can't bestir themselves to at least TRY to make up a plausible fake name -- as opposed to flaunting their anonymity. Too lazy? No imagination? Commie pinko bedwetters? ::shrug:: Dunno.

Oops! Lost the name/URL ID thing. I know I have one or more of those things, but I don't know what or which one. Dishes me... Alger.

To quote Curly Howard, "I resemble that remark!" I do have a nom de plume but write me and I'll tell ya who I am!

OrangeNeck said...

I hope this works. I'm using my Google Username (unless it's different than my Gmail username).

breda said...

Mr. Alger, I would have known you anywhere =)

Shermlock, nom de plumes (noms de plume?) are perfectly acceptable.

OrangeNeck said...

Okay, I guess no more OrangeNeck for me here. LOL!!

breda said...

will it stop you from commenting, OrangeNeck? You can always get an "Orangeneck" WordPress account.

Old NFO said...

Breda I agree on the anonymous part, but you may open yourself up to some of the spam bots that stuff random spams in your replies. I had a problem with that last year, getting random porn/spam comments popping among the viewer comments.

OrangeNeck said...

Nah, that won't stop me from commenting. I just used OrangeNeck as a self-deprecating play on "redneck" and being Asian (yellow-skinned...LOL).

The main reason that I see to allow anonymous comments is for people who don't have an account on the particular blogger service you use. My usual alias started as a joke, but I kept it because it is unusual enough that it is available nearly everywhere--That means I've got the same name across most of the major blogging services.

I believe Blogger has a setting that requires comments on old posts to go through moderation. The random spam crap I've had on my blog has been almost entirely on old posts.

I think I'll nix the anonymous comments as well, because I have a few commenters who are assholes, and cowards with it!

I understand that you and I disagree on a lot of political issues. And I think that's fine - the world needs opposing opinions to move forward. I don't think we would disagree on EVERY issue, because there is a lot from the Republican party that I do in fact agree with. I respect your views, even the ones I don't agree with.

But since I generally fall on the left side of the spectrum (though I do NOT self identify as a Democrat.) and intend to vote left in this presidential election, you seem to have been trying as hard as you can to tell me that I'm stupid, ignorant, foolish and an incapable human being who is not patriotic. Of course not "me" in the personal sense, since you have not identified a single individual, but certainly "me" in the general sense. I find it incredibly distasteful and offensive, and honestly, is pushing my general distaste for the Republican party lately. I've been trying really, really hard to find a reason to like it more and I every time I see harsh words like "If you're leaning left I question your patriotism"... I do loose some respect.

The race seems to be pretty tight between both major parties, and I don't think anybody, today, can reasonably guess who will win in November. I think between today and then both candidates will see a surge and a fall, and the winner will be a surprise. Perhaps my opinion would be different if there was a single clear winner, but when polls show less than a 5% difference between them.. that's not clear. And I think with generally half of the country opposing the other half, both sides are going to have to find some common ground after the election. And ranting that people who chose the "other guy" must be stupid is definitely no way to get there.

So that's my opinion. I've felt really perplexed over this for the past couple of weeks, to be honest with you. I only discovered your blog in the past couple of months but you've consistently shown yourself to be a person I found admiration and respect for. And I've found your attitude about the general election to be very offense.. that just because I might disagree with you, I'm not worthy of this country.

tyskkvinna, maybe you should find another blog to read - one that makes you feel better about what you believe...one that feeds the fantasy that higher taxes, less liberty, and the government telling you how to live your life will help you live a better life. I wish you luck.

& perhaps you have a guilty conscience - you might want to examine that.

If I didn't allow anonymous comments no one would talk to me.

Well, 'cept for the ones that tend yell in all caps.

Heh.

WHAT?

heh.

A guilty conscience? That's funny.

So I guess my suspicions were correct. Because I disagree, I must be wrong. I do feel the need to point out I never said I thought YOU were wrong, just that I disagreed.

Forgive me for ever taking up the time to find respect for your blog.

Oooh, how passive aggressive! And sorry - not falling for it...take your bruised feelings elsewhere.

Well I guess the Anonymous appellation would bug a reference librarian more than most. I mean where do you file THAT!? Mine isn't much better because I haven't plugged any stats or pictures into the thing yet. My one lonely post is something I wrote 10years ago, but it does tell you alot about me, so there is something. (Old dude new buttons what can I say?) Perhaps I'm being impolite. I'll try to fix that, later. I've got sailboat races today and tomorrow.

I utilize my local library a little more because of you. I also enjoy reading your entries. I'm going to teach my three daughters marksmanship.

" I do feel the need to point out I never said I thought YOU were wrong, just that I disagreed."

My goodness, that's confusing. Do you disagree with her because you think she's right? Do you disagree, but you're both correct? How does that work?

At any rate...

I use a nickname or whatever because a great many people I work with indirectly (they review and approve my work at a governmental level and could imperil my making a living and supporting my family) are hoplophobic and violently left-leaning.

Don't know if that means I need to grow a pair or not, but I'm pretty sure I can't convert them all directly and quickly.

I choose to think of it as discretion being the better part of valor although it could be cowardice. "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes."

Perhaps an examination of conscience is in order...

Anyway - I like libraries, friendly librarians, and guns. So I like your blog.

Completely off topic, but have you noticed that children's section librarians tend to be grouchy or is that just my experience? Maybe they all want to be reference librarians where the fun is.

Damnit! Vortigern actually was wrong. Just like the dadgum Democrats are wrong. Vortigern's error brought about the wonderful Irish, Scottish and English culture and history we are so proud. However, in doing so it destroyed the heritage Vortigern was trying to preserve.

In 200 years The United States of America may exist as an Islamic hispanic country under Islamic law, with the Constitution only of interest to historians. Or, we can protect it now from the invading hordes that will turn us to what we will be. 400 years ago we were the invading horde. We don't want that to happen again.

weetabix (a cereal that I love, btw),

pseudonyms are perfectly fine, and understandable, especially for blogs. But leaving a scathing comment anonymously, without even a nom de plume? Cowardly.

breda said...

oh, about librarians in the children's section? They're probably grouchy because they sometimes have to clean up poop.

ray said...

Word... That's what kids do on occasion.

I wouldn't worry about Tyskkvinna Breda, comparing a woman like you to some dingy blond that thinks photographing her feet is well "art" isn't worthy of the time.

Let's all move on to all the good stuff this blog is made of.

well done on removing the anonymous commenter feature. One of those delightful creatures decided to troll me on my blog Saturday. Actually, I think it's a fellow church-goer of my Ex-husband, and, oddly enough, my unwillingness to play their reindeer games is part of what destroyed my marriage. For the time being, I'm keeping the anonymous thing, but I'm holding in reserve the possibility of removing it later. People need to grow a pair and stand up for what they say, or keep their mouths shut.

good move Breda, I may end up doing the same.

I think noms des plumes is the correct French pluralization. If you're curious there are plenty of French people at work I could ask. Wait a minute, offering to look something up for a librarian? Am I going to get charged with being ironic? Jim
