grateful

Younger than I am now, my father left Ireland for the United States, hoping for a chance at something better. In 1955, he stepped off an airplane and into a new country, a new life.

He arrived on Thanksgiving Day.

Oh yeah I care. Doesn't everyone? Turkey, butternut squash, smashed potatoes and CRANBERRIES no bacon; but I've actually seen a 1/2 pound of butter mixed into various things so far, more is missing. I was just assisting and who knows what I didn't see. 3 pies I can see from here and I'm two rooms away from the big dining table. I've got direct ancesters who were at the 1st one in Plymouth and others who got here sometime last week (relatively speaking), others still who were on the other side of the table from those newcomers in Plymouth. I'm as American as apple pie and maize, potatoes and oatmeal. My people have fought in every war (on both sides) and built in every peace. And we give thanks for the chance to grow and the same blessings to you and yours. Amen

I want to wish you a happy Thanksgiving Breda, and to your family. Once again, you have entertained and moved me. I'm thankful for you blog, and for the internet that allows us to communicate in this way. I thankful we still have all our God-given rights, and that our country still allows us to practice most of them. I'm thankful for you.
